True. For decades, Soviet citizens got only the version of history and news which the party wanted them to have. Once they could see for themselves how different it really was, of course they became ungovernable, AS Communists.

It didn’t help that the Afghan war created new challenges AND exposed so much that was abjectly wrong with their system.

Europe is a free-rider. It can only afford to be Europe because we can afford to be America.
