I have never understood college kids inability to understand that when they go to Cancun or any other Mexican "party" city for spring break they will be going to a Third World city outside the protection and laws of the U.S., and are placing themselves at the mercy of the Mexican underworld and corrupt authorities.
This kid was asking for trouble by just going there, and his parents (who probably paid for the excursion) are now outraged?

I don’t understand why anyone would want to voluntarily go to Mexico.
I look at it as going to Pakistan or Afghanistan or Haiti. Maybe with armed guards, but not for a fun vacation.

Exactly.
And parents: dig up the old Spring Break specials that used to air on MTV. Why in the world would anyone think these activities are not dangerous and don’t create a stupid dangerous environment for young people?

I have never understood why the parents don’t understand the risks. Same with Natalie Holloway. When your child leaves the country specifically to do dumb-adolescent-crap in a Third World culture and legal system, with loads of alochol (probably drugs as well) and dangerous sex with strangers actually pushed as part of the “spring break experience,” Good Lord, you don’t have a clue this attracts violence and violent thugs just at the moment your kid is probably at his dumbest?
Parents have to get a clue that this is not their grandfather’s Spring Break anymore. Same with prom.

From the article:
The Mexican hospital that treated Zeke demanded upfront payment for all of the costs related to his care, surgery and stay before allowing him to leave. Can you imagine the international uproar if a U.S. hospital demanded the same of Mexican citizens in their care?
It also mentioned that the kid got a serious infection after he had surgery in Mexico. Can you even imagine getting brain surgery in Mexico?

Where are our U.S. lawmakers to put pressure on our U.S. State Department to
get to the bottom of the Ruckers Cancun horror?
“
Expecting the US State Department to help American citizens abroad?
Good luck. There are too many “citizens of the world” in The State Department.
