"We cannot" - what are "we" going to do about it if the Chinese start squeezing our balls too hard? It's sort of hard to get your defenses into the air when your entire budget has become dedicated to paying just the interest on your trillions and trillions of dollars of debt. What are we going to do, launch a full-scale nuclear attack on China if it decides to invade Taiwan, because, quite frankly, that is probably the only forces we'll be able to field, because we won't have the cash needed to field a force of men and equipment in the arena of action. In particular, we'll need to be able to keep a very large flotilla of ships in the area, and those buggers are expensive to keep running.
Meanwhile, do you think the Chinese are just going to sit tight until the eve of the invasion, and then start squeezing? No, they're not that stupid and they have a lot more patience than most American leaders have. They will start squeezing at least two years in advance, because they want our economy to suffer for long enough that everyone is worn out, too tired to think beyond how to find the next meal at the few remaining soup kitchens that are still open, and certainly too tired to start playing a sophisticated game of strategic chess with the Chinese. They also want us distracted by internal strife and fighting over the disastrous condition of the economy - that will certainly keep whomever's in office too busy to really pay attention to what the Chinese are doing. And then, it will be a lightning quick dash across the straits of Taiwan, and - poof - fait accompli - at which point the US, lacking the ability to field a first-class navy, army, or airforce, will be stuck with the aforementioned choice of launching a full-scale nuclear strike on China, which will, of course, also result in the total obliteration of Taiwan, or else of meekly crawling into the cavernous pit of debt we have dug for ourselves and letting the Chinese take control of the world.
I am sorry my friend, but such is the legacy of Barack Obama and the American Fascist Party, formerly known as the Democratic Party.

We have to help Taiwan under the USMJC and armistice with Japan.

I notice a lack of comment on Taiwan following any course of action to actually help itself.
Nor, do I note much of that sentiment from the Taiwanese side.
