There is a lot of charity in this country and also, emergency rooms are not allowed to refuse treatment to anyone. I have a relative who had colon cancer and she required a very expensive surgery. When the president of the hospital was told about her situation (out of work for a very long time because of the cancer), he sent word to her that she wouldn’t have to pay a penny. She was in tears when she found out about this because she was a wreck worrying about how she was going to pay for it. But, my reaction (privately) was that she was so much more grateful for what she got because she knew that someone was doing it for her voluntarily. When people *expect* others to pay for their health care, they aren’t grateful. They just expect it and when they don’t get it, they become angry.

The other thing you should know is that the number of people without health insurance thrown around in the media over overinflated. It’s far less than what you hear.

yeah we have this too a hospital is not allowed to turn someone away if he/she is serious ill. It doesn´t matter if he/she is insured or not or has no money at all. the only “problem” you will face is (if you are uninsured) that they will bill you for this later, Of course if you have nothing you don´t have to care because they can not take away money from you which you don´t have. but if you are
a working citizen this can easy ruin your live.
So there for the state just “looks” that everyone is insured in some kind of way. This is what we call socialized health care. The system is only aimed that every one is able to get medical treatment without ruining his/her live. Let me explain this system to you. You are not forced to take part in the state system. Every one is free to insure himself to every private insurance all he wants. (like me i would never use the state system). But you are “forced” to be insured. SO if you are not willing or you are too lazy to do it on your own the state Will ensure (if you like it or not) that you are covered. (this is not free!) there exists nothing like free health care.
They will collect a % of your phayceck to pay it in for you.
If you have no job they will still collect some money from you. this menas you will get less money because they use a part of the money you will get for “free” for the state run insurance. So usually if you don´t work at mcdonals ;-)
and you earn a fair share ammount of money you will not contribute to the states system. (because you would have to be a idiot to do this) It would cost you more (because its based on your income) and you would get less medical care. So again everybody is free to pick out an insurance of his(her choice) the state only “jumps”
in if you don´t do it or you are to poor to get a serious
private one. So actually the only people who will get really
free health care are people who are aged below 18.
the state will pay for you no matter what your parrents are
doing. (again of course your parrents are free to insure you in a “better” or a different way if they are willing to pay for it) but if they don´t this are the only people where the state really would use the tax money from us all to give them a fair “start into their lives” So as long as you are not 18 years old they will use my tax money to protect “you” and for me this is ok. Because “kids” are not responsible for their life of their parrents. So this is “socialized” health care in my european country.
If you are not able to “protect yourself” the state will do it for you (using my tax money) But if you are an adult the state will help you if wanted but they will definitely not
bail you out because of this.
greetings
