Harry Truman managed to retain his principles in spite of having to rely on the Pendergast machine in Missouri for his progress. When he heard the Republicans wanted Eisenhower for their presidential candidate, Harry Truman said they would eat him alive. Truman foretold Ike’s principle compromises, even as Republican leaders maintained Ike’s proven character was vital to reverse ever-diminishing Republican Party influence.

Ike’s first major principle abandonment came when Joe McCarthy denounced George Marshall as a Communist. General Marshall had promoted Eisenhower over hosts of more senior officers, and supported his assignment as commander of the D-Day invasion. Ike decreed McCarthy would not board his train in Wisconsin. Ike would also present a tribute to Marshall in Milwaukee. First aides, through supposed miscommunication, allowed McCarthy on the train. Political aides then not only dissuaded Ike from delivering the tribute, but also convinced him to appear with McCarthy in speeches. Eventually Ike would participate in political lies surrounding the U-2, completely stifling the character and principles of the man leading allied troops on D-Day.

Sarah Palin’s conservative stature has been under continuous assault within the Republican Party ever since she accepted the V.P. nomination. She and any other conservative need to maintain stances which are publically disturbing and privately offensive within the political class. Harry Truman was correct when he observed, “My choices in life were either to be a piano player in a whore house or a politician. And to tell the truth, there’s hardly any difference”. From what I have seen and heard, she has yet to demonstrate that level of aggressiveness and cynicism.

I take it that means you’ve looked at my profile. Actually those graphics were made for me by a friend. I don’t catch it.

Now, back to Hunter who by his own admission would endorse his friend John McCain if he wins the primary. Logic dictates that. What then, P?

And you think she isn’t reviled within the old guard for her stands? Come on.

This pertains to you as well.

Translation: You're angry that I caught you lying about the FEC records.

“I believe that Rush, like many others, is providing cover for Palin. As he sees her as the best candidate out there, and one who would do what’s necessary to returning this nation back to its glory. So he is giving her a ‘pass’ and hoping for the best. “

I am suppose to derive, from the comment above, that you’re not a Palin hater? I’d hate to see how you refer to people you really dislike... I’m willing to point out Palin’s mistakes, but failing to endorse McCain would have been political suicide, not to mention disloyal beyond belief.

That statement does not apply to today’s conservative. They have run away from Reagan.

Conservatism is "common sense". Reagan referred to it as such and now Palin does the same.

“Common sense conservatives believe that the government that governs least governs best,” McCain said, urging Republicans to “show Americans there are things that matter more to us than our incumbency.”

I get your point but, when it is used by a RINO, like in the above statement, it becomes something else entirely.

Yes, RINO's such as McCain are deceivers. But let's not let them wreck the legitimate use of the phrase.

Here is what Ronald Reagan actually said:

" We don't intend to turn the Republican Party over to the traitors in the battle just ended. We will have no more of those candidates who are pledged to the same goals as our opposition and who seek our support. Turning the Party over to the so-called moderates wouldn’t make any sense at all." -- Ronald Reagan

I agree, and I support Palin, more so than any other at this point. She is on a slippery slope right now and I hope she rebounds from this McCain BS

What Reagan "actually" said on the subject of common sense and conservatism has already been posted.

Here it is again.

Here's a link to his convention speech transcript where he said that:

Ronald Reagan Nomination Acceptance Speech

Great read, almost deja vu when looking at the situation today.

Though reviled, her actions in unconditional acceptance of V.P. nomination and primary support for John McCain indicate to the old guard that statements are just politics and she is really someone they can manage. They understand behavior trumps rhetoric.

"We will simply apply to government the common sense we all use in our daily lives." -- Ronald Reagan

And Ronald Reagan defined sense as the opposite of what Palin is doing.

" We don't intend to turn the Republican Party over to the traitors in the battle just ended. We will have no more of those candidates who are pledged to the same goals as our opposition and who seek our support. Turning the Party over to the so-called moderates wouldn’t make any sense at all." -- Ronald Reagan

Your misrepresentation of Reagan failed.

When we get to 2012 it’s gonna be like this—you are either with Palin or you are with Obama.

When we get to 2012, I will be supporting my choice in the Republican primaries and then the Republican nominee, hopefully one and the same of course.

Let's wait until that develops before making threats, which are not very cool anyway.

No, you seem to think anyone who does not see Palin as their top choice as “having it in for her”.

This divide and conquer strategy is not going to work and a mediocre Democrat like Romney will not be winning any Republican nomination.

This says a lot about your style of campaigning for your candidate and you are not alone in the tactic.
