It took the Chinese Politburo to prevent the western world hurling itself into the blades of a Condor Cuisinart. Its hard not to conclude many of our ruling elites are in the grip of a mass psychosis and at this stage even Aussie-style electro-shock therapy may not work. If you think about this stuff too much, you could go nuts. Fortunately, Mark Steyn seems to be very tough-minded.

We heat with a wood stove all winter, no problems; but we would probably have to worry about the dangers of carbon monoxide if our house were really airtight.
We have adequate insulation overall but our house is NOT over-insulated like a thermos bottle. In our circumstances, I believe that would be undesirable.

Wood burning stoves can be safely used in even the tightest of buildings. You just have to provide a dedicated source of outside combustion air in sufficient quantity.

That’ll do it too. Just not as efficient.

Bravo Steyn!
These are the green jobs that Barack Obama says will both save the planet and revitalize the economy: electric Zambonis, foil insulation, wind turbines, corn-powered cars. They will put America back on the cutting edge. In reality, like the spiked cutting edges of the electric ice-resurfacer, theyll leave the economy full of artificial speed-bumps that, when not actually sending you crashing to the ground, will make it harder and harder ever to get going.
