$11 Billion Budget Shortfall Projected Official: Shortfall Could Reach $15 Billion
POSTED: Monday, March 8, 2010 UPDATED: 4:47 pm CST March 8, 2010 AUSTIN, Texas -- The Texas Legislature will face a budget shortfall of at least $11 billion when it meets to write the next state budget in 2011, a key state official said Monday.
The shortfall is the projected difference between available revenue and the cost of maintaining services at their current levels in the next two-year budget. The shortfall is mainly a result of lower-than-expected sales tax receipts.
You can always tell a Texan, ‘cuz half of what he posts is B.S.
Yes, please stay away.
We have way too many people moving to Texas! If you’re a good conservative then we’ll let you in but others STAY OUT!! If there is a shortfall it’s because of all the illegals that we have to feed, educate and take care of their medical bills. They all get instate tuition and I’ll swear I live in Mexico some days because of all the spanish spoken!
Which half?
Can I bring a little Kern County along?
We do Ag and Oil as well as anyone can!
...well heck yeah, if you bring back Buck Owens’ spirit since it is only returning to those roots from the 30’s when Bakersfield filled up with Texans and Oklahomans. Just left So CA for Central Texas although my grandfather built most of the buildings that survived in Bakersfield during the biggest earthquakes. Still have the rest of the family enjoying Wool Growers, but I’m loving the hospitality, music and texmex!
Cut my cost of living in half and put the wife’s horses in the backyard for a quarter of the cost...
ymmv
The Texas hill country is quite beautiful and is a popular retirement destination now. Still not too crowded, though. Texas is rather large, ya know!
If you are more into cities, then San Antonio is a really nice city. It has a large Hispanic population, so brush up on your Spanish.
If Texas would do away with government education, then it would also solve its high property tax problem. Just saying...
