"Bernadotte joined the army as a private in the Régiment de Royal-Marine on 3 September 1780, and first served in the newly-conquered territory of Corsica. He was for a long time stationed in Collioure in the South of France and was after eight years promoted to sergeant. Following the outbreak of the French Revolution, his eminent military qualities brought him speedy promotion. He was promoted to colonel in 1792 and by 1794 was a brigadier attached to the army of the Sambre et Meuse. After Jourdan's victory at Fleurus (26 June 1794) he became a general of division."

Very interesting story. Napoleon was often quoted as saying: "There is a Marshall's Baton hidden in every Private's backpack". In this case also a king's thrown. Seems to be interesting enough to be made into a movie.

It was. Desiree starring Gene Simmons and Marlon Brando.
Brando played Napoleon. I forget who played Bernadotte.

Bernadotte’s son Oscar I married Josephine’s granddaughter, Josephine. She was much loved by the Swedish people.

She is a lovely young woman. Let’s hope she is successful when she assumes her duties as Queen and that her royal house is not disgraced like that of England.

Read the article. Due to a change in their law, the first born be it male or female, will assume the throne. As Crown Princess she will become Queen.
