The area of Maplewood bordering Newark/Irvington is known as "Maplehood", to the non-PC locals.

All other PC residents are in your face proud of their diversity including a large gay contingent.

I grew up there. Between the Midtown Direct and the tax reval of the late 90’s, it drove all the old residents out. Maplewood became Brooklyn Heights West. While the town always had a mix of liberals and conservatives, the balance was completely purged.

example: 2004 primary, we went to our local polling place and they automatically handed us Dem tickets. We pointed out that the other color was correct, and they stared in disbelief at the book to verify that despite their worst fears, there were still 2 Republicans in town. And when we got up to the booth and my wife handed in her ticket, the ‘woman’ who took it stared at it and LOUDLY asked, “YOU’RE VOTING REPUBLICAN!!???””” which turned every head in the place. Scary pod-people stuff.
