If it is a hoax, it is using a powerful symbol — up there with cross burning. I mean, how bad could a cross burning be, right? Or yellow stars put on a Jewish frat house

Or a crucifix on a Catholic church.

"Or yellow stars put on a Jewish frat house..."

If somebody hangs a Yellow Star of David on my front door, it doesn't mean anything. I'm not Jewish. That symbol ONLY has meaning for a Jew.

If someone hangs a noose on my front door, it could be seen as constituting a threat ... even though I'm white. That has a more general meaning. If they put it on my door, it would probably mean that somebody sees me as having done something worth hanging me for. There's nothing INHERENTLY racial about a noose.

How come the orientals and eastern Indians never rise up in outrage and protest?

So when did a noose become the sign of hatred toward blacks???

About the same time Little Black Sambo which is a story about a little boy from India! got called racist. "Tar and feather" is another so-called racist term. It's claimed that blacks were the target but in fact it was about tax collectors in New England who were very much white.

There are a lot of ignorant people in this world who want to be victims and a lot of super sensitive folks who believe ridiculous claims.

“My point remains that the noose is seen as a symbolic threat in the black community and with at least some good reason. “

Even though a number of blacks were lynched, it’s a virtual certainty that those lynchings were carried out by liberal Democrats. Since modern blacks vote 90-110% for liberal Democrats, I reckon they have gotten past this whole African slavery thingy.

So rather than an emotional threat, this is just a money-making publicity stunt.

It means “leave or we will kill you.”

Then maybe they better leave.

Hate Crime Hoaxes

Claremont Hate Crime Called Hoax
LA Times (FR thread) | March 17. 2004 | Joy Buchanan, Kristina Sauerwein and Stuart Silverstein

A week after a reported campus hate crime drew national attention, sparked protests and shut down the prestigious Claremont Colleges, police on Wednesday called the incident a hoax staged by a professor who slashed tires, shattered windows and spray-painted racist graffiti on her own car.

Claremont McKenna College psychology professor Kerri Dunn, who had told police that her car was vandalized as she spoke at a March 9 forum on racism, was identified by two eyewitnesses as the person who damaged the auto, authorities said Wednesday.

Professor Kerri Dunn vandalized her own car and then led "Stop The Hate" rallies on campus.

Absolutely I wonder how many white horse thieves were hanged compared to how many blacks? I'll becha lots more whites than blacks.

When I was in about 3rd grade a boy learned how to tie a noose. He taught the other boys and every venetian blind cord in the whole school had a noose hanging from it. This was during the time of segregated schools and it had nothing to do with blacks.

The FACT is that a noose to a black person is a threat. It says “leave or we will kill you.” If you don’t like that or disagree with them having that reaction is irrelevant. That is the case and anyone who doesn’t know that is just so history-impaired that it is pointless having a discussion

I'm all for understanding other folks points of view; however, when black persons begin tying and planting nooses in order to make false claims of discrimination or harassment, I'd say the symbol has lost it's power to frighten them.

Just my two cents.

That is funny, WE do know history, we live in the west where a noose was a symbol of justice against thieves and murderers (and train robbers and horse thieves) and anything else that was against the law. I’m sure that a lot of whites were hanged unfairly, just like a lot of white women were burned at the stake for being “witches” but you don’t see white women running around getting all worked up every time there’s a bon fire set.

Up until the Civil Rights movement, black men accused of crimes (especially rape of white women) were frequently lynched by hanging.

How frequently?

I can understand cross burning as offensive it was used primarily against blacks, I can understand a yellow star, it was used primarily against jews, but a noose? More white people have been hung down through the ages then blacks. If a noose should be considered a threat, then it should be considered a threat against whites.
