I wonder how many bubbleheads were involved in this decision making process. My guess is none.

This is an absolute disaster in the making. It will do NOTHING to improve the war fighting readiness of US submarines, and statistics in fact PROVE that the opposite has occurred on all other co-ed sea going platforms. What then is the point? This is obviously PC BS!!

One guaranteed result of this is that there will be an exodus of highly qualified extremely competent submariners from the force. Submarine life is incredibly stressful as it is. This decision will force many good men to simply leave, rather than tolerate such an increase in hostility and antagonism. It’s a cost/benefit calculation....and many will just come to the conclusion that it’s simply not worth it anymore.

BTW...the idea that we can correct human nature and biology by fiat is a purely socialistic and insane one.

When I was in the sandbox I can recall becoming so sensitive to females, due to a lack of sexual activity, that I could walk past various sleeping quarters (aka hooches) and tell there was a female inside just from my raw senses. I could literally smell them and I don’t mean their perfume. Human sexual desire doesn’t go away in a warzone or in a pressurized can under the ocean. Bad idea...

So, does this mean women on subs will “go down”?

I can’t believe I said that!

Destroying the military is a big part of the America-hating left's agenda to destroy traditional America.

Congratulations, America, on your "historic" election.

So let’s see— take an Ohio class SSBN (submersible ship ballistic nuclear) a missile boat. These have 24 missile tubes each with a missile tipped with 8 multiple reentry warheads (MRV) each one of which is 475 kilotons, or 24 times the tonnage of Fat Man (Hiroshima atomic bomb). So that’s 8x24x475kilotons=91,200 kilotons of firepower. You put into this submarine a mixture of single, married and otherwise attached mixed crew of both sexes and you place them in 400 plus feet underwater. Mix generously during 3 month patrol as part of our nuclear deterrent triad (bombers, land missiles, subs). This is NOT a carrier, it is so sophisticated that any ONE little thing can go wrong and the vessel is LOST, immediately. The Israelis abandoned any attempt of this sort of thing, and also of an all female crew, even switched out (Blue and Gold crews both all female). The discipline effects of this have been well documented. Anyone within the submarine community (who were not asked, I assure you) will tell you HOW BAD THIS IS. We should all write to the appropriate congress people. This is NO place for social experimentation. It was Patsy Schroeder that started all this, and it has weakened our readiness— period. That is all.. (family of submariners from before WWII) This is simply insane. An entire crew with all the females with synchronized PMS?!! No other country does this, except maybe New Zealand. Incredible. And what are our enemies doing? Not this you can be sure.

Terrible idea as was the pc decision to allow women to serve aboard ships.

If the libs, NAGs and pc elite desire for women to serve in these fields, why not assign them a ship or sub "for women only."

Of course, that will never happen just as the fire departments do not assign an all woman fire trucks - women cannot carry the entire load and must depend on men for the "heavy lifting."

To put women on board a sub is just a terrible idea for both the women, men, wives, husbands and "significant others."

Problem #1: Women in close quarters on a sub which stays deployed for months at a time. Mass pregnancies are the best outcome.

Problem #2: Pregnant women in close quarters to a nuclear reactor.

It occurs to me that this is so manifestly stupid that anybody can see the problems here and by pursuing this, it will kill any attempt to repeal DADT.

They always go too far.

Obama’s first in a line of liberal-class submarines for our ‘sensitive’ Navy.

On a serious note, here is additional specific information:

Military.com

Besides the incoming officers from the academy, the first women submariners will include female supply corps officers at the department head level, Roughead said. The change will be phased in over time to include enlisted female sailors on the SSBN and SSGNs, he said. Women will be added to the Navy's SSN fast-attack submarines after necessary modifications can be determined, he said.
