Murtha accused U.S. troops of wantonly killing some two dozen civilians, including children, in the terrorist stronghold of Haditha, Iraq. Bellowed Murtha: "Our troops overreacted because of the pressure on them, and they killed innocent civilians in cold blood." Murtha publicly indicted the Marines before military investigations had been completed. His remarks opened military-bashing floodgates around the world. In the wake of Murtha's reckless blabbing, MSNBC executioner Keith Olbermann accused the Haditha Marines of "willful targeted brutality." The Nation magazine claimed that "members of the 3rd Battalion, 1st Marine Regiment perpetrated a massacre." The New York Times dubbed Haditha the "defining atrocity" of the Iraq war. International papers piled on with Vietnam-era "My Lai" allusions. Murtha cold-bloodedly sat back and enjoyed the ride while the Marines were left twisting in the wind.

I'll give you my opinion, based on conjecture. It is only my opinion.

Murtha seemed to "have it out for" the US Marines, who he once served with. Why would he have such animosity?

Here is my guess: Murtha was a man of little integrity, and low character. I believe somewhere along the line, fellow Marine officers called him out, or caught him in the act committing transgressions. I don't know if that was being drunk on duty, or being caught stealing, or what have you. But Murtha was out for revenge.

Well, unless he did and was truely sorry for his sins, he is headed for a very warm place.

More likely than not, you are correct. Knowing the commitment to Honor and Integrity that’s instilled in Marines, it always puzzled me on how he could stoop so low as to slander and defame the Corps?

Proves how hard it is to vote out an incumbent. He kept the money flowing to all the political whores in his District. What’s even sadder is he paid his whores with other people’s money.
