If an interviewer ever said something as assinine as that to me, I would get up myself and walk out, explaining how ignorant they are for saying that...
See, I and many others I have worked with in the past who are in the same boat are wayyyyyyy past the normal song and dance these days...People tell us basically that we still need to put on a show like nothing serious is going on and that we should put on a happy face that ther are jobs being offered...
Sorry...Hire me, let me prove you made a wise decision, and lets get to work...
We are through screwing around...
I appreciate the kiind words...And I will do my best to temper my attitude, but in reality, it is extremely hard to do...
The truth is nobody is hiring...Not in my industry, to make up for the purges early last year...
And nobody is disputing that. But go down the list of companies that laid off the most people over the last few years and none of them are making buggy whips or any other obsolete technology. They're making cars, selling cell phone service, financial institutions or are part of the service industry. Companies like HP or IBM or Merck didn't lay off people because they were losing money. They did it because they weren't making enough.
The epitaph of many a CEO in corporate America.
