They do that here all the time in Tennessee, The problem here in Tennessee is that they don’t have very many snow removal trucks or salt trucks.
Prayers for all of our Freeper FRiends affected.
Once again it looks like a large winter storm will miss me here in Pennsylvania.
Thank the Lord!
What made it bad today was it all come down at once, I think most the snow fell in one hour or two, was out in it at its peak, it was bad.
My son grew up in Northern Ohio where we get buried a few times a winter and people are used to it, plus we’ve got the plows and salt trucks. He’s seen all kinds of snow and ice conditions.
Now he’s at school in Nashville and he said there were only a couple inches earlier but there were wrecks all over the place, so he drove back home to get his car off the road.
It was nice to read down this thread and see all the people from TN and northern Ala. Makes me kinda homesick. I am a native Tennessean. We are not getting anything up here in my area of WV. Just cold as a freezer. I’m glad we didn’t get the ice. That is the worst thing to contend with. Prayers for all you down there in the white stuff. Stay warm.
I live in Clarksville and there was definitely no 12 to 18 inches of snow. At the most it was 4 inches. The last time I have seen snow here this high was in the winter of 1967-68. 1979 was supposedly that high to, but then we were in Germany. Also Clarksville is not north of Nashville, but north-west
We ultimately ended up with about 4 1/2 inches (at least in SE Nashville). Took about 6 days to melt it all. The last time, I believe, we got over 6” was in the ‘80s. The large snow you were talking about in ‘79 was the year before, IIRC, in early ‘78. I was about 4 years old, remember going out all bundled up to play in it. I obviously wasn’t around for the snow in the ‘60s, so can’t comment on that. ;-)
Yes you are correct about the snow in 78. We were stationed in Germany during that time and did came back May 31, 1979. I only heard about the snow being that high, and I remember in the winter of 79-80 and several years afterwards Wal-Mart having snow shovels out for peoples to buy and no snow
