Victor Davis Hanson surveys the year of the Obama presidency and the factors that led to the meteoric ascension of Scott Brown to the US Senate. He concludes Obama can either return to his campaign promises or continue along his present path and bring political catastrophe on himself and his party. That is the stark choice that awaits him now.

"Show me just what Mohammed brought that was new, and there you will find only things evil and inhuman, such as his command to spread by the sword the faith he preached." - Manuel II Palelogus

Obama has to wonder what brought about the Scott Brown moment.

“The best thing that could happen to Barack Obama is more Democratic losses in hodgepodge elections that might yank away our young transfixed Narcissus from his mesmerizing reflecting pool.”

Great article..

It’s no coincidence that almost everything Obama has done was a wrong turn and has been bad for America. Is it gross incompetency or something bordering on malicious intent? Is it the work of an air-head, celebrity president or a sinister socialist with an agenda? Maybe a combination of both? One thing is for sure: America cannot take three more years of this nonsense. Let’s admit one thing: it was fun while it lasted — a spectacle and pageant of messianic proportions, America’s first Demiurge and Demagogue packaged into One, paraded around, flying on Air Force One if not flying the seat of his pants. Entertainment and Greek columns, low bows and low brow rappers, American Idol come to life like Pygmalion, Marxist idolatry at its finest dress up and served to the masses — but the party is over. The Emperor-Elect, demigod/Che substitute must go.

IMHO, I think VDH’s writing is getting even better lately, as exceptional as he was already.

It is not particularly smart to constantly demonize the entrepreneurial classes, promise to raise income, payroll, health-care, and inheritance taxes on them, and expand government regulations — and then wonder why they are not creating more jobs.

You get what you reward, not what you think you reward, and 0bama has assumed that because he has a number of extremely wealthy donors, he has control of the capitalist classes, if there is any such thing clearly defined at all. It is an ideologue's approach. Where you punish risk-taking with attenuated rewards that are taxed and redistributed in pursuit of "social justice," you're punishing risk-taking. And you'll get less of it.

We must remember that 0bama is, in political terms, a very young and inexperienced man who is attempting to do what all such people do, substitute a theoretical understanding for the lessons of hard experience. Everyone with the latter knows how terribly inadequate the former turns out to be. That is not a lesson that is readily available when one fills one's staff with academics and the theory-besotted. Joe Biden or Hillary Clinton can't help him but a Dick Cheney could.

LIKED BY ALL, RESPECTED BY NONE Obama thought the antidote to “smoke ’em out,” “dead or alive,” and “bring ’em on” braggadocio was bowing to the Saudis, promulgating new and undiscovered great moments in Islamic history, and reaching out to Ahmadinejad as he rounded up and beat down reformers in the streets of Tehran.
