I confess I once found myself in an identical situation. The previous judge had walked off with the courtroom bible and we substituted the NYS Vehicle and Traffic Law, hoping the reporters wouldn’t notice, but they did.. A lesson well-learned. In the future I always made sure to bring the family Bible along opened to an appropriate passage.
I wouldn’t read a whole lot into this story.

Which book, the dictionary, or the ‘book’ of law?
The Constitution isn’t liberal or conservative, religious or anti-religious. We have problems when anyone, liberal or conservative, religious or not, puts his personal desires or agenda before the Constitution.
