The bulk of the population is located in Rutherford, Wilson, Robertson & Sumner Counties (that’s over 400k right there), the rest are relatively rural and don’t have much voting clout (like tiny Trousdale). Smith County is Gore’s homebase, which still leans Dem, but it’s also a rural county. Gordon is from Rutherford County, the most populous county (5th most populous in TN). The growth in the district is considerable, so this will become far more compact and centered on Nashville after 2010. The rural counties will likely have to be shed to a reconfigured 4th.
Curiouser and curiouser....or not.
The national Republicans didn’t seem to put much effort in helping Janice Bowling defeat Lincoln Davis in 02 or 04, which surprised me given his margins weren’t exactly spectacular. Hopefully now they’ll divert more resources into that seat, if they can find someone good to run against him.
are you the motivational leader for grunts like me working on House races? Let’s hear it. The motivation that is.
Yeah, unfortunately Bowling was left to twist in the wind. They wrote off the seat when Van Hilleary left it to run for Governor (Hilleary could’ve reelection to the reconfigured seat, it would’ve been difficult to gerrymander him out of it) if only because the seat was drawn for Davis himself. Funding, however, turned out to be key. Had Bowling been matched dollar for dollar with Davis (and had Hilleary the same amount Pharoah Phil had to dump into the Gov’s race), we’d have held both.
Me motivate ? Surely you jest. Probably better off popping in a tape of “Knute Rockne” and fast-forwarding to Reagan’s deathbed speech (or Robert Hays’s in “Airplane !”).
that, my friend, is the problem. My tape player broke and now I am not motivated enough to go buy another one.

I cannot even listen to that because my iMac won’t deal with the latest verion of Adobe’s Flash Player.
De-motivation continues for me. Only the ‘49ers are getting me thinking that upsets are possible.
That sucks. As for that last point, that must be a sports reference. Those tend to fly over my head, because I know almost as much about sports as most people do about the history of their Congressional districts.
just think of all the time you save by not having to keep track of the sports world; all the stats and scores and roster changes.
Yup. And I get to miss out on all the arguments over sports teams, because #1, I don’t know ‘em and #2, I just don’t give a damn. When it gets right down to it, it’s NOT that important, because if they lose, there’s always another game. I wish people would get more worked up over politics because that has real consequences and effects on our lives. We lose there, and there might not be the “next game”, you know what I mean ?
