California has has term limits, and has had them since the 1990s. I can’t think of a more powerful argument against term limits than that fact.
Get these sonzabitchez out! Sick of them all and like another FReeper said, NO MORE FAMILY DYNASTIES.
You’re correct that the SCOTUS did rule against Congressional term limits in the 90s by a vote of FIVE to FOUR!
I’m not giving up on the possibility.
At the time 23 states voted 2-1 to change term limits
Maybe the next few years will see a makeup change in the Court and another attempt at sanity.
I think your common-sense proposal would win handily.
Amending the Constitution to place term limits as law of the land would take at least 12 years and even if 2/3 of the states actually pass legislation to make Congress vote on it, do you really think Congress will pass an amendment forcing themselves out of a job?
A invigorated and educated people are the answer to reign these DC clowns in by making an educated vote.
I'm afraid we are too late to turn the country around.
CWII will probably be the final answer to cleanse this land of the vermin currently running it
And I do not think it is very far ahead of us. Congress is spending their way into it.
To quote Jay Leno: Spending our way out of the recession? Isnt that like trying to drink your way out of alcoholism?
By a 5/4 vote in Thornton v. US Term Limits, the US Supreme Court declared term limits for Congress unconstitutional. (Justice Thomas wrote the dissent).
This world, including FR, is full of people who don’t pay attention.
And never allowed to be lobbyists before or afterwards!!
Never have truer words been spoken!
Kudos!
Ditto. It appears we have several groups and websites pushing for term limits however everyone is going in different directions. We need to unify into one effort with one term limit platform to be successful. My team is starting an effort that will make March 1, 2010 Congressional Reform Day where we’ll initiate requests with our individual state legislators to assist with proposing a term limit amendment to the Constitution (per the process defined in the US Constitution). If you are interested in joining this effort, please email me at term-limit@hotmail.com. This is a temp email until we finalize our website.
Thanks.
