It took Obama three long months to come up with McChrystal-lite. If he were doing his job he would have known enough in August to decide within weeks after having the recommendation vetted.
The Telegraph is reporting similar numbers.

Now I am pretty sure that Obama was waiting for his health care plan bill to pass, so that such plan for more troops would not make Democrats unhappy and boycott his Obamacare. It makes sense for me.

According to Glenn Beck this morning, these troops will be deployed over a long period of time, NATO will contribute a whopping 1700 troops (photo op for O), and it will include a "war tax" for the wealthy.

I think this is a trial balloon, used to guage how much flak will come from all quarters, his liberal base, conservatives, as well as national and international support. I personally do not think he will order more troops over before he picks up his “Peace Prize”, and I think ultimately it will be fewer men than 34K.
