It's a waste of time to try and get a "lawyer" to admit ANYTHING negative about his client. That's just the way the legal system works. He's right. The jury will take care of that and his job is to attempt to NOT prejudice his client's case.

That said, I have always wondered what sort of a "human being" would do that for a living???

I understand that, but Fenstermaker was not being asked if HIS CLIENTS murdered them, rather whether the victims, now dead en masse, died as result of being murdered. How else did they die? It was an intolerable position for him to take.
