" The optimist in me says, well, we survived Carter, so won't we survive this? The pessimist says, this putz is so much worse than Jimmuh. "Yes, of course we'll survive. What can be done that cannot be undone?

Obama is just another temporary political figure, he is, in only 10 months time, a failed chief executive - that's all.

Whoops, fixed it.

The pessimist in me says Barry is no Jimmuh. Hussien was not raised in Plains by American parents who cared for this country.

This Marxist President is already 10 months down the road on his way to a Socialist utopia.

This is totally different from the gas lines and hostage crises. Our Constitution is under attack.

Just sayin.....This Is Obvious. This Must Be Stopped Now!

This administration is "amateur hour" in everything except scr*wing America.

There they are perfectly on top of their game.

his powerful intellect Yeah. Reminds me of a so-called brilliant student I knew in college; couldn't figure out a bus schedule.

What's wrong is at the top. The Buck Stops Here. Shaking up the staff won't much good if the President is out of his depth on foreign policy.

He does not travel to foreign countries to see what he can do, he travels to put a visual stamp of approval that is his presence on programs already worked out in detail by either the State Department or by a separately-identified team.

Oh, you mean like the appeal for the Olympics in Chicago?

The meeting in Geneva in 1985 between Reagan and Gorbachev is the only major summit that I can think of where neither side knew what was going to happen.

Not a lot happened there, but ironically, that was what was needed diplomatically. If either side had capitulated, the cold war would have continued indefinitely. Both sides had reached the end of their tethers and it was time for one side or the other to collapse under the strain.

With that realization, both Reagan and Gorbachev agreed to more meetings and more negotiations.

But other than that pivotal situation, 99% of Presidential trips are to put the seal on agreements already done.

The fact that the White House doesn't know this is a testament to the pure amateur nature of those making the calls.

Well, two responses to that. One is that Reagan wasn’t expecting any breakthroughs at that meeting. And there was no buildup that would have led people to expect any.

The other is that Reagan was a pretty good major league poker player.

No kidding. When it was announced he was going to "pitch the Olympics for Chicago", I figured it must have been a done deal and his appearance was just a payoff for the Olympic committee. (IMHO, that is really below the pay level of any POTUS, but that is just my opinion.)

But I was floored when Chicago didn't win. It shows that it really is armature hour in the White House. They allowed their boss to be set up for failure.

That's exactly right. I don't think he thought it was a done deal when he left, I think he thought his august presence would make it a done deal. Hasn't learned a thing since then, either. IMHO, of course.

True, my point was it does happen, but only when the President (and the weight of his office) is needed. Obama wasn’t needed anywhere in Asia this last week. He was needed at the Berlin, but instead piddled around where diplomats should have been working. And set their work back it now appears.

Asian nations are yearning for the same kind of creativity today from a brilliant American president in the new Pacific Era.

Gelb doesn't get it.

0bama is already above his pay grade.

He doesn't know what he is doing.

The reason why the deals weren't nailed down before he went is that 0bama is such a narcicist that he thinks only HE can make the deals, that the world will pivot upon his appearing.

This is going to end badly.

BTD, that is the scary part. Not only is he in over his head, he seems incapable of learning. The Olympic fiasco should have been a painful experience that no intelligent person would risk repeating.
