In order to maintain my sanity, I have found it helpful to strive to think like a liberal. So how does a liberal bureaucrat “fight poverty”? If there were no poverty there no poor for liberals to help. Nobody would be left except a bunch of arrogant tea teabagger worker drones. Thus a more realistic “solution” is called for, like creating a welfare state that assures a constant supply of poor people.
How does a Democrat appointee to Homeland Security Director make herself needed? Certainly NOT by making her homeland more secure! That’s the sort of thing some clueless Republican might undertake!
The purpose of any liberal undertaking is first and foremost to “preserve the problem”. Hence, one deals with poverty not by making useful citizens out of slum dwellers, but by making the plight of the poor just a little easier to bear.
One doesn’t make the homeland secure. Instead, one “tries” to deflect any backlash against American Muslims following any inexplicable overseas or domestic “contingency”.
