When her boss first went to see her in the emergency room, her first words to ask about the wounded. Classy, classy gal.

“Most places are reporting 3 minutes not 5 to kill the terrorist. Where do you get the off duty?”

Early reports were over 5 minutes, later it was 4 minutes, now it is under 3 minutes, pretty soon this woman will be flying to the rescue. Remember Jessica Lynch the hero from the Army, that story sold lots of newspapers.

I also read somewhere that the female cop was taking her car to the repair shop and returned to the base to kill the bad guy.

I also have a S&W, Mossberg and Rock River AR for my security.

I cannot imagine how Hassan was able to fire 100 rounds, wound or kill 46 individuals, reload 4 or 5 times, within 5 minutes. I don’t believe I could do it, even with stationary targets.

Exactly. And I was going to peg her as a tough Texan belle, but found her to be from North Carolina. Cool.

“She developed a love of shooting as a young girl, her grandmother Monirie Metz said. She killed her first deer when she was 11 on a hunting trip with her grandfather.”

Seems to me that the car getting fixed was her State Police car not her personal car as the nyt seems to hint. She would have been on duty. Most cops take their squad car home with them so they are on duty 24/7 or at least here they do. There is Cop 500 yards form my house most of the time.

Like Mark Twain said “ If you don't read the papers you are uninformed and if you do read them you are misinformed.”

I was stationed on a SAC base. The Security Police had rifles to guard the base gates and the flight line. Otherwise, if you wanted to fire a weapon, you went to the range.

We had enough live nukes to blow up the whole f**king world, though, so we weren't completely unarmed.

Also, military doctors rarely see gunshot wounds unless their in a combat zone.

During the run up to Desert Storm, our county hospital hosted dozens of military MD’s as we could guarantee them lots of opportunities to update their skills.

From all accounts I've read, this lady went right at the shooter without hesitation. "Who Dares Wins", as the saying goes. Speed and surprise.

I hope she recovers from her wounds quickly.

As is so often the case, it took a gun to stop a gun. When all of us have become targets, then all of us are soldiers.

I was at Ft. Bliss when sent to Desert Storm. Medics were on a rotation there and pulled Medevac duty in El PAso. Helped them gain valuable real world skills for use in the field.

Anyone know why it took well over 5 minutes for someone to shoot at the terrorist, on the largest Army base in the world? And then to be stopped by an off duty female civilian?

The largest Army base in the world was one of the best places to stage a mass shooting, sure in the knowledge that you would be the only one with a gun.

Off the base, in Texas, you might encounter lots of people with CCWs, but on the base only MPs are allowed to be armed, and since the base is relatively low-crime, they don't have the need for lots of armed police.

A hundred rounds in five minutes would be easy.

You can empty a 20 round magazine in about 10 - 15 seconds. 100 rounds in 5 minutes wouldn’t even be “hurried”.

She did a fine job. She took the battle to him. Thank goodness she was there to put a stop to the jihad.

*** if you wanted to fire a weapon, you went to the range. ***

Same at our SAC base. I was issued a Colt .38 Special in a sealed plastic bag for overseas combat missions. I found that our local base would let us bring our private owned handguns to the indoor pistol range and we were allowed to use our own ammo (non magmnum). I even got to shoot my black powder pistols there.

All that changed in June of 1968 when Bobby Kennedy was shot. Then a whole new set of rules came in. No giving away brass for reloading. Privately owned weapon shooting was discouraged or forbidden. All empty brass had to be counted and accounted for.

Today I still have several boxes of IVI .38 brass I got before the clampdown.

We know that one of them was an FN Five-Seven.

“FN’s newest contribution the handgun’s evolution is named the Five-seveN®. This 20-round pistol fires a 5.7mm bullet that will defeat most body armor in military service around the world today. Essentially, the Five-seveN® represents a quantum leap forward in the handgun’s suitablity for close engagements by delivering the type of performance that was previously confined to rifles or carbines. Elements of this performance include:

High magazine capacity: The Five-seveN® comes standard with 20-round magazine.

High stopping power: The Five-seveN® fires the 5.7x28mm SS190 Ball round which reliably penetrates Kevlar helmets and vests as well as CRISAT protection.

High hit probability: The Five-seveN’s® extremely low recoil impulse results in virtually no muzzle climb, thereby facilitating fast and controllable follow-up shots.

Yet, the Five-seveN® is:

Light and ergonomic: Weighing 30% less than most 9mm pistols, the smoothly-contoured Five-seveN® is comfortable to carry and quick to deploy.

Fully safe: Due to its double-action firing mechanism, the Five-seveN® offers no inherent risk of accidental discharge during transportation. Furthermore, all of its safety devices are automatically reengaged following each firing cycle.

The Five-seveN® fires the SS190 5.7x28mm ball round. This projectile will perforate any individual protection on today’s battlefield including the PASGT kevlar helmet, 48 layers of kevlar body armor and the CRISAT target (titanium and kevlar). The SS190’s conventional design allows it to be manufactured on existing production lines, and its lead-free composition eliminates range contamination.

Five-seveN® Technical Specifications

Caliber 5.7x28mm
Operating principle Delayed blowback
Trigger mechanism Double action only
Magazine capacity 20 rounds
Overall length 208mm (8.2 in)
Barrel length 122.5mm (4.82 in)
Weight, unloaded 618g (1.36 lb)
Weight, loaded 744g (1.64 lb)

***I only wish she had a 12 gauge rather than the 9mm.***

The .45 ACP was designed to take down Juramentados.

One fine point in the story. She fired and started running toward the ahole. Most police departments have discouraged active closure on shooters for years. Having been in two shootouts I can say that it served me well both times. Of course I learned from Special Forces trainers years ago.

Nice job Sarge!!!!

She is a Dept. of Army civilian contractor Police Officer.

Most MPs in rear areas have been replaced by DOA contractor police Officers.
