Murtha doesn't want to do a blasted thing to put any of his kingdom at risk. He controls and doles out procurement funds. A possibility of diverting procurement dollars into O&M would impact his power base among the other members of Congress.
See this website Defense Subcommittee and this (large PDF) document: 2010 Earmark Certification Letters (note: although the letters are addressed to Obey and Lewis...they appear on Murtha's page...that should be a "little" hint).

Murtha said he fears a similar situation to the one in the late 1970s, when in the aftermath of the Vietnam War interest rates skyrocketed to double digits.
Lawmakers did not offset the costs of the Vietnam War.
We have the same thing here. We are not paying for the goddn war, Murtha said
MONEY QOUE: They are setting up the war to blame for the coming financial disaster..nevermind that Zero spent as much in 3 months as both wars cost over 8 years...

That’s exactly right. It’s a smoke screen to cover their theft of the stimuloss money and the repaid TARP funds that Geithner refuses to put back into the treasury.

Murtha wants an honest
Well, if I can agree with something that Hillary Clinton said I guess it’s not to much of a stretch to find Murtha and honest in the same sentence. And I do agree with you about Murtha protecting his kingdom.

I'm sure they could come up with some savings out of the trillions they spend each year. For starters they could defund Murtha’s “airport to nowhere” in Johnstown, PA.
Trying to get a democrat to cut spending is like trying to get a vampire to come out into the sunlight.

....I remember that time well....LBJ didn’t have enough money to pay for BOTH the Great Society programs and Vietnam....so he went to printing money...that screwed up the economy that floundered around until Paul Volker jacked up the prime to 19%....bitter medicine, but it worked and set the stage for the Reagan recovery.

Rep. John Murtha on Thursday said he is open to raising taxes... Last nail in the coffin of our economy.

If Murtha really wants to help the effort, why not use the money that is earmarked for the Murtha Airport that nobody will use.

A troop surge in Afghanistan is useless. Our current war isn’t against a country, it’s against a global collection of fanatics who are bent on our destruction. We should bring our people home and send out thousands of CIA assassins to just quietly get rid of the malcontents and terrorists that are our real enemy. These people are everywhere and need to be hit where they live. Since they live in Detroit, Lackawanna, London, Paris, Kabul, Singapore and everywhere else, this has to be done by an army of secret assassins who can remain anonymous and secret. This will never happen until we can rid ourselves of our goody-two-shoes PC mental illness and do what needs to be done.

Murtha doesn’t want to understand that on of the government’s first obligation is to defend the country; spending should follow the priority of those obligations.
To: markomalley
This might be necessary as the ‘bama and the Democrat controlled congress are siphoning off defense funds for other projects, like a Kennedy memorial. This will, of course, increase the need for more memorials for our troops. It’s all about hope and change.

The only thing they want accountability for is war funds, When they start demanding the socialist programs and pork barrel thievery be accounted for someone may take them seriously...
