Funny, the article doesn't to note that the US company that produces our Swine Flu vaccine is largely owned by a key Obama benefactor. Let's see... calls for new equipment and technology to make more vaccine for the one US company producing vaccine. I wonder who will pay for that?

Might ask what administration chased away this industry.

THANK HILLARY

http://www.galen.org/component,8/action,show_content/id,14/blog_id,864/type,33/

October 2004
“ This crisis is the result of a series of policy decisions dating back a decade. In 1994, First Lady Hillary Clinton led an effort to enact the Vaccines for Children program, and the government now purchases 60% of all pediatric vaccines.

The government has dictated prices to manufacturers that are often below costs, and many suppliers have been forced out of the market, unable to make a profit at 15 cents a dose, in some cases. At the same time, the cost of manufacturing and the cost of complying with increasingly burdensome regulation have gone up.

Other manufacturers watched and saw that this clearly is not a good business to be in.

The Manhattan Institute held a forum in 2002 to analyze the problems, and it forecast today’s shortages. At that forum, Wayne Pisano of Aventis said that just two decades ago, there were a dozen companies making vaccines, most of which have left the market or been driven out by a variety of pressures.

Henry Miller, M.D., of the Hoover Institution said this “should be the golden age of vaccine development” because new biologic technologies are available. “But there is scant enthusiasm for vaccine development in the drug industry ...”

I heard distribution of the swine flu vaccinations was taken over by the government this time, rather than its usual private distribution network. We all know what that means.

From what I understand...there is PLENTY of the vaccine.....but because the gubmint is handling distribution...there is a DELAY in getting it out.

Coffee breaks, federal holidays, smoke breaks, no need to work past 5. Government efficiency at its very best.

From what I've heard it's pretty much

TOO LITTLE, TOO LATE

The CDC has stopped counting cases because the swine flu is already running amok around the country. IIRC, it takes 3 weeks for the vaccine to become effective, and we're already at least that far into swine flu season!--these inoculations should have been give weeks/months ago!!

Obama hates sick people!! Spread the news! Swine Flu is Obama's Katrina!!!

In addition to that, in spite of having most of the year to prepare for this pandemic, the distribution of the vaccine by the government is so fouled up that many counties have none available. Yesterday, a high school in one of the cities near here-W. Illinois-had in excess of 1100 students out with flu symptoms. Not a dose of vaccine is available in this county.

Kinda makes the response to Katrina by Bush look "immediate".

Wonder why the press isn't jumping on 0 for his obvious failure to these poor, poor Midwesterners!

Get a mop, Sebelius, and clean up after Hillary - she and Bill are the ones who broke it.

Exactly right - when big gov’t beats up on industry and makes innovation unprofitable, the result is predictable. I keep trying to tell this to friends who think they’ll get something for nothing with “universal care”. Innovation costs money, and when prices are suppressed, profits taxed to death, and innovators subjected to never-ending lawsuits, it’s hard to justify the risks associated with new product development.

Yow, she looks like “Maude.” I suppose anyone who loves abortion that much will eventually have the ugliness show on the outside.

“JOHN KERRY wasted no time jumping on President George Bush about the unexpected shortage in flu vaccines this year. Why wasn’t Bush paying attention? He should have done things differently. And of course Kerry had a “plan” to solve the whole mess.

If Kerry thinks he can solve the flu vaccine problem, he need look no further than his own running mate, trial lawyer John Edwards. Vaccines are the one area of medicine where trial lawyers are almost completely responsible for the problem. No one can plausibly point a finger at insurance companies, drug companies, or doctors. Lawyers have won the vaccine game so completely that nobody wants to play.”

And as is usually the case with all gov’t created problems, the people responsible for creating the mess are never held accountable for the mess.
