Ah yes, Charleston SC, where the Ashley and Cooper Rivers meet to form the Atlantic Ocean. Even though, on a summer’s night, you can walk miles barely touching the ground because of the Palmetto Bugs, it is far preferable to me when compared to ‘Sodom by the Bay’ with its Billionaire Libtards like Nancy P!

When my father came to visit several years ago there was some sort of strange advertsing gimmick that was running. It entailed one of their reps approaching a person, usually in the Fishermans Wharf area and stating that they would have to write you out a “ticket”. To the foreign visitors who did not speak english well it sounded like some sort of police action.

The “ticket” was just an advertising coupon for overpriced products and services, but some tourists used to police in their home countries, tried to bribe the ticket writers who pocketed the cash and wrote their “ticket” anyway.

My father and I were approached by one of these ticket writers. My father was confused initially but I was aware of what was going on and told the fellow to GTFO of here and went to Defcon 2 in my posture and demeanor. The would be ticketeer made an apologie and took off.

My father said I was rude to the fellow but I responded welcome to the big city, that was a scam artist.

True story from the '70s:

I was chatting on the road to DFW with fellow Texan (via Ham 2 meter radio) about forthcoming trip to SF...

Texan: "Y'all be careful! Those folks out there are WIERD!"

~~~~~~~~~~~
Same evening, in SF hotel, asked fellow (from across the Bay, who was replacing cable TV coax -- stapled through by carpet-layers) where I could buy a book to read...
CA Cable guy: " Follow this exact route -- and get back in here before dark. Those folks out there are WIERD!"
Used to live in SF.
Top choice to eat used to be the Alta Mira in Sausalito. Beautiful views and classic place inside.
It has been turned into some type of retreat or something now.
SF has turned into a darker place in opinion. The homeless people seem aggressive and downright dangerous.
Palmetto bugs my butt. Those are cockroaches...
Charleston is crawling with cockroaches..What's the deal with the trillions of roaches there?
Between the cockroaches and nasty boiling humidity, y'all can have it!
I've lived and visited there off and on since the late 50s. Very nice - good food, mild weather, great views, sports, economic hub, Scottish dancing, ballet, opera, symphony, books, good transportation, sailing, and easy access to wild areas for hiking.
But you need to know your way around. There are plenty of dangerous and creepy places, and things may not be so swell now; the sensible gun laws from earlier days are long gone.
Some of those folks have large hangars, if you catch my drift.
“The airport is great.”
The airport stinks!
It's one of the few that still has automatic gate hole in effect if flying to it and has the longest waits for departure of any airport i’ve flown to.
Haven't been to San Francisco in almost 20 years and hope I never have to go back there.
I've never found anything about that joint I like.
Queers, cramped living, people with a lousy attitude and phonier than a $3 bill.
SF is a stunningly beautiful city, full of surprises. Contrary to what one poster’s 17 yr. old observed, the people who live and work in San Francisco, for the most part, look just like any other Americans. There are some weirdos, but you have to go looking for them in Haight Ashbury or the Castro. Those neighborhoods are a tiny fraction of the whole.
