I was watching it live. I got really worried when I was only reading the FR thread.
They started describing the size of the balloon, and the first thing I thought of was the Mythbusters episode! Thanks for posting the link.
BEST POST!
“I thought from the start that the balloon didnt seem large enough to lift the mass of a six-year-old child.”
Which was confirmed when it came down empty. If the balloon had been able to lift a 40 or 50 lb child then when it lifted off empty, or if the child had fallen out shortly after lift-off, it would have shot up a lot faster and more quickly than it did. As it was it barely got off the ground and apparently had a leak, as it came back down again in pretty short order.
Well they’re Stars now. Otherwise, why don’t the cops go pick them up NOW?! Are the perps in the NFL or something?
No doubt the advice of their attorney, 'cause it is abundantly clear that these people love being in the limelight. I hope that the Court has no mercy on these jerks.
“David Lane, a Colorado civil rights lawyer who is representing Richard Heene...”
....”civil rights” lawyer?!!...what the hell is this?....suddenly it’s a civil right to put first responders thru that kind of time and effort?
Jim,
Please award z3n a gold star! LOL
No I remember you did, as for myself I didn’t suspect anything until the balloon landed, in the aerial shots I had seen up to then it looked so much bigger, but once it landed and I got a good idea of it’s size then I thought one of two things a hoax or blind panic by the parents and authorities.
Ah, Ward Churchill's lawyer enters the fray. If David Lane is involved, you know a media circus is coming.
They wanted reality TV - they got it!
Just not on their terms.
was the pilot for a potential MTV series called CopJerkers...
"What KIND of people like to do this?"
The media whore kept mentioning the show, Wife (dramatic pause) Swap(!); her emphasis. It's like they never knew people ride balloon, build model rockets or kit cars or planes. The Left has been trying to remove all private aviation since 9/11, and this is just another stick for them.
I thought it was strange that the balloon did not have a basket or compartment to hold passengers. I never understood how a person could have been inside in the first place. If the boy had been inside the actual balloon, he would have suffocated from lack of oxygen, right? He couldn’t survive breathing helium.
Who knows if they will face prison time, but, at a bare minimum, they need to pay restitution. The costs of law enforcement, plus military aircraft, for a hoax, should have to be reimbursed.
i think spectacle is what this couple is looking for!
Yes, you have a civil right to pull off a hoax, apparently. You have a civil right to tie up law enforcement while you play your game. You have a civil right to let your balloon fly into airspace near a major airport so you can disrupt air traffic as part of your game.
Yep, you have a civil right to attract attention to yourself.
” You have a civil right to let your balloon fly into airspace near a major airport so you can disrupt air traffic as part of your game.”
...good point...there ought to be some serious federal charges here to throw at that family....think of all the flight delays those fools caused....they disrupted travelers from the West Coast to Chicago.
That reason sounds hinky
The NYTs just can't be bothered to get their facts right on anything. The interview was with Wolf Blitzer not Larry King.
Well, now I see Fox News, on BOR, reporting that it was an interview with Larry King. Yet, on the night this happened, I know I saw Fox playing a clip of Wolf conducting the interview in which Falcon spilled the beans. I guess I will give up trying to figure out who is reporting the truth on anything.
