A methodology somewhat similar for counting AIDS cases in Africa. It used to be (and may still be) that AIDS cases were calculated using a check list of symptoms, no lab work. X number of symptoms and you had AIDS. Of course the fact that many other disease in a tropical climate resulted in the same symptoms was irrelevant.

And the reason for this is that the more AIDS cases you have, the more financial aid you have available to you, either through the UN or directly from the US.

Get bitten by a tsetse fly? You don't have the African Sleeping Sickness, you have AIDS.

My doctor says he has not seen a single H1N1 patient that was older than 33.

Interesting. I remember reading that those exposed to the 1957 flu may well have some immunity to the Swine flu. Trying to track the info down.

If it is widespread but not severe how can it be called a Pandemic?

Wouldn’t a pandemic be severe in many areas as well as widespread?

Thanks! I’m sure I’ll be fine, at least I’m not so scared anymore. (Oh, and when you root, use PINK pom-poms, and not cos it’s breast cancer. Use pink because after raising 2 boys, and getting 2 grandsons, we finally got a granddaughter last year, and I’ve discovered I really like pink!)

I thought I just heard that H1N1 virus was actually getting weaker?

This is flu in general, not H1N1 specifically.
And note the subtext: "This map indicates geographic spread and does not measure the severity of influenza activity."

That’s what I heard also. I’m not getting the flu shot at all. I decided our government and the phrama’s have to much money and power, to gain and don’t give a rip about the people or saftey. Besides everything I’ve read and heard about the flu shots is, the flu shot itself isn’t very effective at protecting you from getting the flu and it can be dangerous. Vitamin D helps tremendously in preventing you from getting the flu in the first place and a host of other illnesses as well. It’s cheap and for most people it’s safe to take.

anything that this administration tells me to do, I will have serious reservations.

I completely agree. If they say it's a crisis I have to wonder if it really is. And they are way down playing the economy, which I think is the bigger problem. It's almost like they want us looking the other way, while the real problem is something entirely different.

Personally, I think just about all in congress, on the hill and in the White House are completely insane.

Yes I noticed that. It might be coming earlier, you have to wonder if it has more to do with having low vitamin D levels. There is a connection with getting the flu and having low vitamin D. They’ve also linked low D with several cancers. In fact every woman who’s D was measured that had breast cancer, also had low levels of vitamin D. The base level is 40. I had breast cancer and my D level was 14.

Good luck to you. CHemo was not as bad as I thought. I had nine carbo/taxols and now 25 weekly Taxols. It is an experience but in the oddest way, I am so happy to be here and to be alive. I thought I wouldn’t make it six months but here I am thinking maybe a couple of years, maybe even more.

I hope it goes well for you and email me anytime,,I have spent a year learning about cancer and chemo and wish I had known more earlier.

My link is the correct link

Unfortunately, it's not. Look at the date on the link you provided.

Here's the correct map:

http://www.cdc.gov/flu/weekly/WeeklyFluActivityMap.htm

I think the one you provided is left over from the last flu season.

I spend several hours a day outdoors (in all weather), come in contact with many people in public places and never even take aspirin. Frankly, I think the body needs regular exposure to germs in order to keep the immune system in good shape. Do you know Sam that the reason babies are constantly putting their hands in their mouths is so they can be self-dosing themselves with germs, while their immune system is going through the critical development years? Yup... the Creator knew that they couldn't work at your job and so came up with that "system" instead. :)

Since everybody is “on the lookout”, people are reporting to their doctors for every little sniffle. Thus, we are finding a lot more “flu” cases than usual, when most people just stayed home for a day or so and never told anybody what they had.

THE WINNER!
