“Bush was right up there pushing the ownership society with no downpayment mortgages expressly aimed at affirmative action homeownership goals.”
That is just not true. Go back and read his actual proposals. I don’t have time to look it all up right now but will later if you want me to.
Have you seen the video compilations of his speaking on it?
bttt
Only partly true. On twelve occasions the Bush administration urged Congress to take control of the deteriorating situation at Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. And on twelve occasions the Democrats, often with Barney Frank in the lead refused to do anything. To repeat the errors of the past is criminal stupidity. Any Republican who votes for this should be dumped, and dumped hard.
They 're using the race card - again. Now, if we don't buy houses for the do nothing democrat base - we're racists.
If they can't afford to buy a house they want, then they shouldn't have one. If they wanted one bad enough, they'd get a second job or go back to school to get one. That's what normal Americans would do.
Screw the democrat base. I'm tired of carrying their water for them. It's been generations since they've worked. It's time they got off their butts and did something for themselves. Enough already.
President Bush was trying to undo decades of bad democrat policies because of the CRA, one step at a time and the democrats blocked every single effort, every single time. Those are the facts and while you might not like the way he went about it, it is a gross overstatement to say that he ‘promoted’ the same kind of policies that the democrats did.
I am not going to watch selected edited clips of President Bush speaking on the matter when I remember his ENTIRE speeches and proposals. Get me a clip of a full speech and I will watch it.
That clip is a single appearance.
That is a single appearance that has been edited and clipped. Like I said, get me a full speech or transcript and we will discuss it.
Looking back..it’s too bad we didn’t require these people to have large downpayments(the democrats blocked that too..why?). President Bush was trying to get the money that the dems were handing out to groups like ACORN(and lining their own pockets with) into the hands of the bankers as downpayments. If he had been successful, we might not have had an utter collapse of the system and huge bail-outs might not have been necessary. The banks would have had at least some equity to fall back on to begin to handle the crisis.

That seems to be a requirement these days.
..... Sheesh - No idea how I missed that!
