Sort of like the pimped-out ghetto-yachts with the 24” $5K per wheel spinners, parked at the Section 8 housing (government-subsidized).
First - it is not, and should never be the government’s job to “take care of the poor”. IF the government didn’t extract $billions for that purpose, churches and individuals (and families) could take care of the poor far more efficiently.
While I believe it is none of the government’s business to be the “sugar daddy” of the lazy, poor, and unemployed, it would be a lot easier for me to swallow if the waste, abuse, and corruption in the system were not so obvious. But that is how government programs “work” - if not for waste, abuse, and corruption, it wouldn’t qualify as a government program.
And the #1 pet peeve my father use to always complain about - going and writing a check for his groceries, right behind the woman with all the “qualities” you mentioned - but where he use to live, it was almost always a Lincoln Towncar or a Cadillac - and usually one less than a year old.
And yes, I realize that there are people who truly are in a tight position, doing all they can, and cannot feed their family and keep a roof over their heads. I also have known people in that situation who have been denied these benefits (foodstamps, WIC, Social Security disability, etc.), while others who never made an effort to support their family received enough for a family twice their size.
Again - this is why the government should be OUT of the social welfare business completely.
