Just rode the Hotter-N-Hell 100 in Wichita Falls Texas...

Any estimate on the turnout this year?.... Hope you did well and enjoyed the ride.

Yep. Temps are moderating now, though. Down into the mid to low 90s this week. The drought is the real killer. As you know, area lakes are between 20-30' below normal pool. We have several neighbors relatively new to Texas who are throwing in the towel and moving out due to the heat.

God Bless Texas!

I’ve heard an exceptional number of people tell me the same. Can’t deal with this heat.

My Wife works with a bunch of Yankees who said they would never go back to shoveling snow all winter.

Guess it takes all kinds?

Dallas area has not been as bad this year, I don’t think, even though we’re just a few hours away.

Still, not nearly as hot as Phoenix or Las Vegas can get. I remember spending time in Phoenix during August several years ago and it was around 115 and hovering at triple digits all through the night. Not even close to Iraq either, with its 130 degree heat. I remember donning my son’s 40+ pound kevlar, LCE and body armor before he went to Iraq and knowing that our troops wear this stuff all day and night in those conditions. So, 102-105 ain’t so bad when put in context.

About 13,000 people. I finished without falling this year and improved by an hour. That was my fourth one and I can't tell you how enjoyable it was to go with some good friends and just ride. I'll tell you, that we said a prayer before we drove out there and we checked in on Thursday with NO LINE, got my goodie bag, found a place for our Motorhome and then the weather was perfect with cool temps, no flats and a tailwind at the end... what a great time. The Big Criterion Rider upstairs truly blessed us this year.

I'm trying to finish in the top 50 next year for my age group, but I doubt I could finish in the top 50 for the 70+ women.. yikes!!!! There are some real beasts out there.

I hope you had a great ride. Did you stop at that bar for beer at mile 98..... I swear it's the devil trying to keep riders from finishing...hahahahahahaha...

I don't think I could have sat down, had a beer and then finished. The worst part of the ride for me is that last hill on the bridge heading into downtown... it fakes you out.

I’d say just 20 or 30 miles to the north of us, isn’t even in a drought. There’s like this *evil* line where the rain and in turn, cooler temps won’t cross.

It’s creepy!

Thanks for the info. Sounds like you had a great time and the event was excellent. I’ve never been but have wanted to go. I’ve been thru Whitcha Falls and have thought about the ride, the rolling hills, the temp/humidity, etc. Hope you have many more successful rides.
