Yea that could happen. Aquarium fires are not unheard of. We have a 5 foot wide 125 gal salt water reef tank, and the power it draws spins our power meter like a 78 RPM record. Fire is always on the back of my mind, which is why we have two smoke detectors in the area of the tank.

If fire is that high of a possibility because of this aquarium, the smoke detectors won’t keep your house from burning down — they are only designed to alert you if you are at home, asleep. Maybe you should consider installing at least a partial residential sprinkler system. They’re less expensive than you might think, an it’ll help keep your whole house from burning down.

When I was in the UK back in the early 60’s, we would stop at the Fish & Chips place before coming back to base. I would order Place and chips, the chips were freshly made from potato’s sliced in front of us and then deep fried. The fish and chips were then rolled in a couple of pages of newspaper and handed to us. The price was “2&6” or 2 shillings and 6 pence worth at the time about $.35 American.

On the counter was a shaker bottle of white vinegar and a salt shaker. With our prize seasoned to taste, we left the place and half in the bag, enjoyed the greasiest, tastiest and most satisfying meal imaginable. Hands and faces covered with food (no forks allowed) we were a mess. I wouldn’t trade the experience for anything in the world!!

Marine aquariums can be very difficult to maintain and like even a fresh water aquarium, the smaller the size the more difficult it is to maintain. A small quantity of water will reflect changes much more rapidly then a large one and so must be monitored more closely.

That's a good idea, except that it turns out all you have to do is put the electrical stuff under the tank...
