” What States Can Do to Safeguard America’s Election System “
Preventive detention of ACORN members would be a start....
No early voting in person.
No same-day registration.
And, absolutely no open primaries. Only those registered as that party can vote in the primary for that party.
With all due respect to the mechanization, there is nothing like a paper trail.
Establish strict vote tallying standards.
Eliminate the dimpled chad, hanging chad, etc. garbage. Do not attempt to interpret -- instead discard -- any and all spoiled ballots.
Establish uniform vote counting standards.
Count all the votes everywhere the same way. Announce all totals at pretty much the same time. Stop the endless recounts until the Rat candidate wins garbage.
Another one: Require our government system to be referred to as a Constitutional Republic, not a Democracy.
BTTT
Seconded!
I am really curious to see what happens in 2010. Here in Maryland, the district lines have been so gerymandered to protect incumbent Democrats you would need an acetylene torch to break them loose.
Will all the anger at the townhalls transfer to these “safe” Demo districts? I can’t help but think many of these Dems follow Pelosi blindly because they feel so safe in their rigged voting base. Here I’m hoping for a rude awakening for so many of them.
This guy really knows where to hit ‘em. Definitely an article worth saving.
I agree, battlecry, about the horribly gerrymandered redistricting. Cost Connie Morella her seat, replaced with the idiot VanHollen.
One good thing [?] is Maryland is switching back to paper ballots. Read about prior to the 2008 election.
I’m digging the idea of only permitting taxpayers to vote. With more and more people who are net recipients of government largess via expropriation from productive citizens wallets, the outcome in future elections is distressingly clear.
If it were up to me I would also move a Federal Holiday to the Second Tuesday in November.

There are thousands and thousands of recipients of VA pensions, which are tax-free - so therefore these people are not, technically, ‘tax payers’....
Are you suggesting that disabled vets should be denied the right to vote??
Sales taxes. Property taxes in rent. Corporate taxes in products purchased...
Yeah, right. If people had a clue as to how much even the poor pay in taxes, you'd be singing a different tune, and so would they.
One thing retired FReepers can do is to sign up to be a poll worker in your district. That way you can make sure the voting is fair. You get paid for a day of work.

No siree! Sorry about that! Didn’t know VA pensions were tax-free, but I’m glad they are.
There really does need to be a discussion regarding voting.
Over the past decade or so, real wages have remained flat- gains eaten away by inflation. The net percentage of those paying into the system has declined. Illegal residents [even those paying taxes] and those who perpetually take from the system- who are otherwise able of contributing [ NOT including pensioners or retirees who have worked for years, or were homemakers working without compensation], will in most instances vote for either continuation or expansion of policies promoted by candidates who support their position. It is, by its very nature, unsustainable.
The racist in the Whitey House allowed Black Panthers to stalk a polling place in Philly. This form of voter intimidation will be RAMPANT in 2010, with SEIU, ACORN and other thug groups represented at polling places throughout the nation. Those who want fair elections had better be prepared for it, with groups of actual Americans ready to make their own presence felt wherever and whenever necessary. We cannot depend upon police to prevent fraud and intimidation. We will have to prevent the theft of this nation ourselves.

And what about the hundreds (thousands?) of pages in the tax code that give special tax breaks to specific groups/corporations/individuals??
I question whether the discussion needs to be about ‘voting’ per se — but rather about the acceptable role of government (specifically the Federal Government)...
Your tag-line would be a pretty good place to start..... ;~)
