It's been updated. Now it reads

Something I can’t figure out is how using a New Orleans player is supposed to help with an election in Texas. If he once played for Dallas I could understand but he didn’t. It seems like that would have the opposite effect.

Because the news media has developed nomenclature to the point where a friend is labelled family friend or something along those lines and a girlfriend or boyfriend description often suggests something more.
