Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-NY): "....a victim of its own success".

But.. White House aides were not immediately available for comment.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration who oversees the program, was unavailable for comment Thursday evening.

So...the industry sold over 200,000 vehicles in a week? And, they all qualified for the full $4500 clunker payment?

Bull Puckey!

A billion dollars, divided by $4500 per ‘clunker’ comes out to 222,222 vehicles; that’s an annualized rate of 11.5 million vehicles. So, shouldn’t we be hearing about this amazing success from someone, anyone in the MSM?

Cash for Clunkers will be back.

It’ll be known as “Cents for Seniors” health care program.

” One Michigan Republican, Congresswoman Candice Miller, has already come out in favor of extending the program, saying in a statement that “There can be no doubt that the Cash for Clunkers program is a complete success given the fact that the entire $1 billion allocated to the program was expended in less than a week.” “

So the criterion for success is how fast you can make a billion dollars disappear into thin air? And she’s a RePUBlican???????????

Time for a new Party, folks.

This one’s O-ver.

And consumers would be able to receive a $3,500-$4,500 discount from car dealerships when they trade in their old vehicles and purchase a new one.

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm. Let's see. $1 billion divided by, say, $4,000..........that's 250,000 units! In one week!

You FReepers in the car business. Is that possible?

Or is this one of those government programs where it's costing $10,000 to give away $4,000?

Lots of dealers are going to get screwed - sold cars and “killed cars” and now they're not going to be reimbursed...

And I'd sure like to know where the billions went - who wants to bet cities with large ACORN groups got the money...

And tell us, Candy, what metric do you use to call that a complete success? That they ripped through a billion dollars? They only started registering dealers last Friday, right? The metrics can't possibly be in yet and you have no clue if the money aided Detroit or Tokyo.

What’s going to happen next will be worse than what it was supposed to help.

So they’ve suspended the program after a week. What happens next? NOBODY will buy a car until they start the program back up again. Knowing congress that could take awhile.

Anyone who didn’t see this coming is an idiot.

My husband looked into this just out of curiosity (we’re not in the market for a car just yet—we have no desire to take on a car payment since we’re on the Dave Ramsey program). His car is a 1988 Honda CRX—not eligible since it’s over 20 years old (he gets anywhere from 40-50 mpg). Our 2000 Windstar—what we could get as a trade-in would not fit our family of six (including a toddler car seat and two booster seats).

Gee, thanks, Obama! Way to look out for the hard-working families of this country </s>

“There can be no doubt that the Cash for Clunkers program is a complete success given the fact that the entire $1 billion allocated to the program was expended in less than a week.”

The goal of this program was to spend money and the evaluation method is to see if the money was spent.

When this was done in Europe, it was found that 80% of the people would have bought a new car anyway...............
