I saw on Fox that some people were trading in some very nice cars.

I can give you a for instance: me.

I traded in an older GMC pickup that I had refurbished: rebuilt engine, rebuilt transmission and paint job. I got the itch for a newer model and decided to look into the cash for clunker program as an alternative. I was able to buy a $27k GMC pickup (sorry about that part) for a little over $16.5k, including tax, due to the GM Employee Discount through a relative and the cash for clunker program.

I was sick when I learned the dealer had to ruin the perfectly good engine that had maybe 5,000 miles on it to meet the requirements of the program. My opinion is that any effect on the envirnment was a net negative. Such a waste.

Has the dealer poisoned your car? He is supposed to BEFORE he gets your money.

As most people finance at least part of their new cars, I hope they don’t lose their jobs in this -12bama economy. They won’t be able to make their payments.

Yeah, I can’t believe they’ve already gone through $1Billion already. The list of eligible cars was even narrowing further.

One thing I heard on the radio today was that dealers were making folks sign a statement saying that if the dealer didn’t get paid from the government that the buyer was on the hook for the amount.

The government does not want us to drive the cars we want, soon we will have out own version the the people’s car. Nevermind the fact that those engines could have been sold or scrapped for parts.

Hollywood Celebrities Support Cash For Clunkers Bill

Celebrities Promote The New Cash For Clunkers Bill Because It Helps Some Of The People That Need It Most

NEW YORK, July 29 /PRNewswire/ — Celebrities Support www.CashForClunkersInformation.org.

CashForClunkersInformation.org has received support from celebrities like Dancing With The Stars’ Cristian de la Fuente and Ugly Betty star Angelica Vale to educate consumers about the program. In addition, Alfonso Aguilar, the former Chief of the U.S. Office of Citizenship, is also a spokesperson for the organization due to the large impact the bill has on the Latino community and other immigrant groups.

“This government subsidy will make it easy for people to get a new car that is a lot less expensive to operate and maintain because of the great gas mileage and lack of repair costs,” said Cristian de la Fuente. “It is great to see the government funded automotive bailout helping hard working people who need the financial support.” Angelica Vale added, “Finally consumers are getting a bail out, because they are benefiting by up to $4500 a person.” Since a large number of the clunkers on the road are owned by minorities and immigrants, these communities will benefit significantly from this legislation. “We have passionately supported Cash For Clunkers because of its positive impact on the environment, economy, consumers and its benefits for hundreds of Hispanic American communities whose livelihoods are tied to the auto industry,” said Alfonso Aguilar, former U.S. Chief of Citizenship and Immigration. This is obviously resonating with the Latino community because the organization’s website was flooded with visitors after Univision and Telemundo explained how consumers can use the Clunker Calculator on www.DineroPorSuCarcacha.com with Alfonso Aguilar and Angelica Vale on the show. “The site temporarily shut down due to an overwhelming flood of traffic,” said Mike Degan, Chief Technology Officer for www.CashForClunkersInformation.org

President Obama has taken pen to paper and signed off on Cash-for-Clunkers, a law that could help the auto industry shake its year-long funk. The Transportation Department now has 30 days to determine the rules and regulations for Cash-for-Clunkers, placing the start of the program at the end of July.

I guess he figured he would just keep printing money until we have Zimambwe style inflation.

This red SOB is your typical leftist moron, he and his PR men know all about getting imbeciles to vote him into power, and nothing about running the nation.

According to AARP’s report, Obama said today that the end of life counselors bit is BS!

I’ve read that section of the house bill. He’s right that the counselors arent government employees. That’s about it.

WOO HOO!!!!

The Marxists sure know how to run a railroad, yes siree!!

The Senate passed the Cash for Clunkers Program today, which gives consumers with cars that get less than 18 miles per gallon the ability to turn them in for a $3,500 or $4,500 cash voucher. The bill was nearly defeated by Republicans, but Democratic support saved the day in part due to Obama’s lobbying of the program. The President still needs to sign the bill into law.

Although many people believe that the program is designed to reduce global warming emissions through the eradication of gas guzzling cars, its true purpose is to help out struggling automakers and car dealers with new car sales. A person who receives a credit as part of the program cannot buy a used car with the monies. Car sales in 2009 are predicted to be nearly half of what they were in 2008.

The bill was sponsored by Senator Debbie Stabenow, a Michigan Democrat and one of the states most affected by the turmoil in the auto industry. After the bill was passed, Stabenow said, This is an emergency for families and small businesses — for an industry that has been the backbone of our economy for a generation.”

The program will be implemented by the Transportation Department and this is expected to happen by early August. As part of their duties, the Transportation Department will create a public website for consumers and dealers to get more information, will certify “cash for clunkers” dealers and distribute the program vouchers.
