I’ve never been impressed with the liberal court historian Michael Beschloss.
Obama certainly has a high IQ. It took a combination of intelligence and political talent for a Communist to get elected President of the US.
But it took a real sycophant to call him “the smartest guy ever to become president”. Obviously, Beschloss seeks the good graces of Obama for a future book.
Consider, T. Jefferson vs BH Obama. JF Kennedy once commented, during a White House dinner honoring Nobel laureates, that the dining room had not contained such collective intelligence since Jefferson had dined there alone.
Jefferson personally designed and managed the construction of Monticello. I’d wager that BH Obama would have great difficulty designing and managing the construction of anything larger than a dog house.
Jefferson was also a prolific inventor and a naturalist. I don’t think any sane, intelligent person would call Obama a polymath on par with Jefferson.
Jefferson was also a gifted writer, known especially for his Declaration of Independence. If his books were not ghostwritten, Obama also has considerable talent in crafting the written English language. However, I’m fairly confident that few will read Obama’s writings two centuries from now.
Also, Jefferson knew the guys who wrote the Constitution and understood the document well. Jefferson would undoubtedly give Obama an F on his interpretation, even though Obama was a professor of constitutional law.
That said, I am certainly tired of the puffery that routinely enters any discussion of Obama's intellect. If he were white, people might say that he was intelligent, but no one would be calling him a genius.

Tonight Bill O. asked Dennis Miller just how Barry managed to fool the American people...I mean, he was so brilliant and eloquent with such great ideas. And now he can’t sell his healthcare plan and steps in it with local police trying to do their job. How—asked Bill.
