Which is the reality once someone is duped to go on camera or be written about for the media to exploit, so their point of people like this being goofy is documented...

As to gold, I've always felt that 1/10th rounds made a lot more sense than 1 oz rounds do, but that's just me. I've also been buying silver 1 oz rounds and bars because I felt, like you, they'd be a lot easier to deal with.
YMMV.
Also, we who keep a close eye on the news will be able to top off the pantry shelves with nice to have stuff about 6 hours before the panic stampede starts for basic items.
The MAIN reason I keep watching the (dire) news every day.
I’d rather deal with the stress of what’s happening in the world and be prepared, than have my head in the sand and be blindsided by catastrophe when (not if) it hits.

Silver coins, canned goods, ammo. We can get all protein from the ocean. Cast nets, hooks,shrimp net, sinkers, artificial lures,mask, snorkel, fins=crab, lobster, fish, shrimp.
I’ve been meaning to get some junk silver, especially dimes.
I told hubby awhile back......if you have enough guns and ammo you can get anything you want. ;)

Yes, anyone who doesn't rely on the government 100% of the time for 100% of their needs and count on 100% continuity of that support is "a little goofy".
These simpletons are going to wake up in the middle of a living, breathing nightmare, and start off by immediately demanding that the "goofy" food preppers give up all their food so that it can be equally distributed among everyone who scoffed at preparing.

Second, if it helps people feel better and have more control over their situation, why not? The people who know they have taken care of themselves can be more focused on taking care of others if it ever comes to that.
Third, if things ever do hit the fan, we need to be focused on more important things, like building a thunderdome, so we can watch the entertainment provided by the less prepared.
I'd give them sticks and make them stand guard.
