Since when are military posts "gun-free" zones? All you have to do is register the weapon with the provost marshal and, if you reside in military barracks, store them in the arms room.

I bought the majority of my weapons at the US Rod-n-Gun clubs in Germany and never had an issue.

So - we are now at the real root of why a certain Gov in a Southern State should step down....

Zero trust.

Not my Gov mind you.

Mine just quit ‘cause the job got hard to do.

Yah, I would suppose it’s big. I’m sure there’s bigger ones around, but if I remember correctly I think they just combined the two exchanges for Ft. Lewis and McChord AFB into one big store.

Thanks for the ping! I used to work at a vendor outside the old main PX on Ft. Lewis. Now I only go once in awhile with the parents (was just there a few weeks ago, though.)

When you bought guns overseas did they make you fill out a 4473?

Thanks,

Ed

Usable firearms...

A pistol in the arms room will do you no good if you have an “active shooter” scenario.

I was making a reference to the fact that military bases rely on rent-a-cops and scattered military police for security, but that a determined cadre of terrorist shooters could wreak havoc at the PX/BX, Commissary, etc. The Ft. Dix case is a perfect illustration: had the terrorists gained access to the base with automatic assault rifles and had they proceeded to a crowded venue, they would have found a perfect killing field (masses of unarmed people).

you are kidding right. you do not need a commanders consent. you can bring on post, but it suppose to be unloaded. not that everyone follows it. i bring mine on post all the time...i got a text from my hubby earlier about this incident i had been calling there to pay my mil star card and they would not answer, then told me they were closed. knew someone working there at a kiosk.

Last time I checked, you are supposed to keep the weapon unloaded and in a case. More to the point, you are only authorized to bring that weapon on base if you are going to a range (or a gunsmith, if your rod-and-gun club has one).

UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES should you bring a loaded firearm on post, carry a loaded firearm on post, or load a firearm on post (with the exception of the range/rod-and-gun club). It is a federal felony if you get caught.

It’s stupid, of course, but those are the regs.

One of the bases in Germany used BX for whatever reason. Meh. I was young.

BX is for Base Exchange, as in Air Force Base.

The shooter, a 59 year old retiree, died around 4 PM Pacific Time.

We may not know the why of this senseless action now.

NWCN just had a piece on this. The woman was a civilian employee at the PX. Her mother has said that the man was her ex-boyfriend.
