That’s quite correct. Nicked = “stolen”, or “arrested”.

The M3 sub gun is more reliable under filthy conditions than MOST guns. There is little in the design to go wrong, with VERY few parts. It is a blowback operated SMG firing a relatively low pressure pistol round, and relies upon the weight of the bolt to keep the breech closed untill the chamber pressure subsides so that the cartridge extraction phase can be completed. This eliminates the need for locking and unlocking mechanisms, which add to complexity.

This does not mean that the M4 is unreliable. The M4, while not as brutally reliable as the AK family, is reliable enough when properly maintained, and offers other advantages that negate that brute reliability somewhat. Such as better accuracy, lighter weight, better ergonomics, and better full auto control aren’t chopped liver. It is also a very versatile design that lends itself to multi mission adaptability with a wide variety of add ons.
