I agree with the author; we need many, many more roundabouts.

I’ll rather see a roundabout anyday over a red light camara.

Well I’m an American driver and I’ve never had a problem loving Roundabout. It’s just that I like South Side Of The Sky a little bit more.

Well, if they would synchronize the darn traffic lights so the lights at the next intersection don't turn red as yours turns green, traffic would flow much better. How difficult is it to set traffic lights for the speed limit so you make each light? It would sure cut down on redlight runners.

As for roundabouts, having learned to drive in Australia where there's an abundance of them, they work fine when you're on the street going with the flow of traffic. If you're on the side street, forget about it.

Roundabout? Oh right, the accident waiting to happen.

British people choke with laughter when they hear that we install roundabouts to ease traffic congestion. Anyone who drives through the roundabouts that infest DC knows that they are a dangerous nuisance (the roundabouts, not the British). They’re so unpleasant, in fact, that it has been suggested they were originally installed to deter and confuse any invading army.

I drive through a few every day. I hate them. I know perfectly well how to negotiate them and have done so without an accident throughout Europe as well as here at home, but nonetheless I hate them. It can be impossible to get into the correct lane to turn onto the exit you want without going around and around the stupid thing until someone lets you in.

Now THIS is a roundabout! Six little ones inside a big one, in Hemel Hempstead, UK. (I've been through it - luckily someone else was driving.)

Diverging Diamond Interchanges is something else for drivers to get used to.

When in Germany I found roundabouts everywhere. Stop signs were almost nonexistent. Traffic flowed well. This in contrast with the jerky stop-and-go of stopsigns here, which lead to drivers living the “rolling stop”.

Roundabouts are the perfect solution for indecisive drivers like my wife; they needn’t stop, turn, nor choose a direction.

I like them a lot at smaller intersections. Nothing worse than being stuck at light after light with either light or no traffic. A traffic circle is so much more time efficient.

I live in a small town that so far has one roundabout but will soon have more. I think they’re great. Who wants to wait for a green light or get hit by someone running a red light? So far the only people that have not been able to negotiate the roundabout are drunk drivers who were thereby prevented from entering the downtown area.

there has been a roundabout movement here for the last 8 years. the only people who like them are traffic engineers. What ALL positive articles FAIL to mention is that the ones in Europe are of a very large diameter - probably 4 or 5 times that of the ones here. the large diameter makes for faster speeds. Many here are no faster than the four ways they replaced because they are only 100 feet across and do not allow for any speed above a crawl to go around them.
