They needed a STUDY to tell them this?

Anybody who's trained for dog agility or for retrieving knows that dogs understand pointing gestures. What's more, they can distinguish between left and right, and between a straight "over", a "back" and an "angle back". As well as "come in", "easy" and "way back".

Instead of spending all that money, why didn't they just come out to a training day?

So they look at them for a half a second, stick their tongue out at you, run around in circles, and then take a nap?

I swear my dog knows when I put on shoes whether I am staying home or going out.......she knows what ones I will wear when leaving the house and she starts following me everywhere when she sees them.

I can vouch for this. They know my body language, my gestures, and they recognize some 1-2 word phrases.

I knew something was up when my dog gave me the finger a few days ago.

The real money should be spent on why supposedly mature liberals can’t think any better than a 2 year old.

My dogs go dancing barking crazy when I pull the shotgun case out of the hall closet.

They also know by which clothes I put on whether I'm going to work (and they sadly walk to their crates, go in and lie down) or we're going out to train (they go to the side door and commence bounding and barking).

They also know many of their toys by name and will bring them on command . . .

One thing that retrievers generally don't do is carry a bumper to somebody else. I was working with a pro trainer one day, he was about 75 yards away, and shouted for me to toss him a bumper. I can't toss ANYTHING 75 yards, so I heeled my older dog, put a bumper in her mouth, and told her, "Take it to Jerry!" and pointed. She trotted out to him, heeled, sat, and delivered to hand. "How'd you get her to do that?" he asked. I didn't train her, she just put two and two together and did it.

Agree. My dog responds much better to verbal and hand signals than my 2yo grand son.

Our dog packed up and left when we got a cat.

I forgot to say, she carried my husband’s birthday card to him earlier this month. “Take it to daddy!” and she went barging up the stairs and located him in the bathroom and presented her gift.

"They needed a STUDY to tell them this?"

Thankfully, Eötvös Loránd University (the institution that conducted the study) is located in Hungary. This probably means it was US taxpayers that funded such nonsense.

That's what my Labs do. In all seriousness, my chocolate can retrieve on hand signals and whistle commands alone.

I was at a friend’s house on Christmas. His german short hair was watching the kids open presents and his master picking up the wrapping paper and putting it in the trash can. Without asking, the dog started picking up the paper and putting it in the can.

I can’t get any of my kids to pick up after themselves.

My late Golden (Terra deceased at 15 and a half) went stone cold deaf and it took a neighbor to tell us — she was so good at reading our body language!

Some dogs may be the equivalent of 2 year olds, and some are like 4 year olds.
