“I agree with Obama, we don’t need these expensive F-22s. The age of fighting wars through air power is over, it’s all about the battleship now.”
Heck, we can buy 1,000,000 horses with that kind of cash.
How will he know since he won’t actually read the bill?
Maybe the GOP can use some of the stimulus cash to buy themselves some testicles and matching spines, and call Il Douche on it. MAKE him veto the defense bill!
361 Million a pop, TEN TIMES what a F16 cost 300 times what a F-105 cost.
I am not convinced we need the Rape-tor either. I would rather buy twice as many planes for less than half that.
Our Naval and Air procurement and industrial capacity is crippled.
“This isn’t about money. It is about capping our airpower.”
I fear you are correct.
“...the United States Air Force considers the F-22 a critical component for the future of US tactical airpower, and claims that the aircraft cannot be matched by any known or projected fighter, while Lockheed Martin claims that the Raptor’s combination of stealth, speed, agility, precision and situational awareness combined with air-to-air and air-to-ground combat capabilities, makes it the best overall fighter in the world...”

Make him veto it and then beat him over the head with it in 2012.
Obama sent a letter to the leaders of the Senate Armed Services Committee vowing to veto any defense bill that funds more Lockheed Martin F-22 fighter jets... he would veto bills written by a Democratic Congress... an amendment to strip $1.75 billion for seven additional F-22s from the Pentagon policy bill... wants to cap the F-22 fleet at 187 aircraft... Sen. Saxby Chambliss (R-Ga.) won narrow support for an amendment to authorize funds for more F-22s when the Armed Services Committee marked up the bill last month. Levin and McCain opposed it at the time.
0bama has no interest in protecting the USA.
Depends on whether or not losses of expensively trained aircrew and the loss of a battle or war matter to you.
It doesn’t matter as much to me what the best airplane costs as much as it does that its the best in class, that we have as many as possible, and that when the dogfights are over its our airplanes coming in to land.
You can’t fight a war, and win, on a budget. You spend what it takes to win always.
Let him end the manufacturing of F-22’s. It’s time to move on up into space. Space fighters, bombers & lasers should be the goal for the next generation of air force technology.
“WHY THE HELL DO THEY COST SO MUCH? THEY COST MORE THAN THEIR WEIGHT IN GOLD!”
Because only 187 of them are being built.
It’s just like the difference in price between a Ferrari and a Ford.
The Ferrari costs $300,000 because only a hundred or so are built each year.
A Ford on the other hand costs $15,000 because several hundred are made each day.
If we bought enough F-22’s to replace the F-15’s on a 1:1 ratio then they’d probably cost about the same. Hell, even at a ratio of 1 Raptor for every 2 Eagles they’d be less than half of what they cost.
Now keep in mind that there were over 700 F-15’s built with 522 of them still in service (not including the F-15E Strike Eagle).
“Not battleship but spitballs.”
And a strongly worded letter.......
After he has his hamburger and ice cream.
BTTT
The F-22 does not cost a billion dollars per airplane.
The ME-262 has weaknesses that were easily exploited by allied aircraft such as it’s inability to increase thrust to climb out of the landing pattern if attacked.
“361 Million a pop, TEN TIMES what a F16 cost 300 times what a F-105 cost.”
And there has also been at least 10 times as many F-16’s built.
“I would rather buy twice as many planes for less than half that.”
Well if they built 374 Raptors, they would cost half of what they do now.
Obama, he knows how to prioritize...
This also means more money for those Stimulus Road Work Signs. Hip, Hip Hooray...
This is like when Obama said “we will not weaponize space”.
We won't, but Russia and China will. They are already buying up all the energy sources because we won't drill off our own coast or in the Arctic.
