The patriarch of the Orthodox Church of Ethiopia says he will announce to the world Friday the unveiling of the Ark of the Covenant, perhaps the world's most prized archaeological and spiritual artifact, which he says has been hidden away in a church in his country for millennia.....

Abuna Pauolos, in Italy for a meeting with Pope Benedict XVI this week, told the news agency, "Soon the world will be able to admire the Ark of the Covenant described in the Bible as the container of the tablets of the law that God delivered to Moses and the center of searches and studies for centuries."

The announcement is expected to be made at 2 p.m. Italian time from the Hotel Aldrovandi in Rome

Hmmm. Touch it and die. Any army that carries it in front of them into battle cannot be defeated. God speaks from between the Cherubim.

Being an agnostic, I’m probably not the best person to ask for extreme details.

May I recommend, oh, I dunno, cracking open your own Bible?

IIRC, the Book of Exodus would be a good place to start.

This could be cool...I first learned about the Ethiopian connection a few years ago from the History Channel.

“The Ethiopian “ark” may indeed be a fraud.”

Go ahead and let Obama touch it. If he melts, it’s real.

Yep, it takes faith, unless something truly miraculous happens which can be witnessed by everyone.

Yes, but there are things to play out in Israel before the Second Coming

.Oh absolutely. Someone pointed out that scripture doesn't say if the ark is is the third temple, but it seems likely. I know every generation is convinced that they are in the end times, but the signs do seem to be falling into place, don't they?

I thought that one of the old testament prophets buried it and hid it in one of the holy mountains in Israel, and that it wasn’t supposed to be “found” until the end of time.

I can’t remember where I heard that.

The guardian monks (one is appointed and serves for life) at the church in Axum, Ethiopa, which claims to have the Ark, live relatively short lives (then again, it is Ethiopia) and suffer from cataracts.

It’s convenient that we are now under a new covenant.

Since we now fight a majority of battles from the air, would this require a soldier to be the first one out in front of any conflicts? Who would volunteer for this?

OK, being who I am, I’ll just wait and see what happens.
