Sanford is a no nonsense kind of guy, and he isn’t into popularity polls. As for his getting away, the man is probably seeking the ‘will of God’ and when God says ‘draw away with me, you go’. I do not believe this will hurt him in the eyes of the voters who count. The liberal nutcases always have a complaint, if they have to dream one up.
The Lt Gov is a jerk, so his opinion does not count for crap...he’s just upset Sanford is going to back someone else for Gov, as his two terms are up.

It looks like it was politics that backfired on those that want Sanford's position.

Read this article.

Also...notice that since it failed in smearing Sanford it is no longer all over the MSM news. Thus... my points all along.

More evidence that the liberal MSM are (were) gunning after Sanford. click here. They will viciously attack him like they did Palin. Because he is a threat.

South Carolina Gov. Mark Sanford says he has returned from a trip to Argentina. He was not hiking on the Appalachian Trail, as his aides told reporters to explain his mysterious absence.

Trust me, it stings that another (seemingly promising) Republican politician has thrown his career away. And the manner that Sanford did it is especially stupid. If we ever hope to be a majority party again, we’ve got to purge ourselves of these hypocritical clowns. I do feel somewhat vindicated, however, that my original instinct about his behavior (and its consequences) turned out to be correct. Other than that, this is a disaster for a party that can’t afford to lose more credibility.

Jesus told the men who wanted to stone the woman caught in adultery...”He who is without sin cast the first stone”. One by one they walked away.

Thanks for showing us “your self-righteousness”...I’m sure God is pleased with your being right. Reminds me of the gossips who just can’t wait to be the first to spread the rumor.

Just remember the scripture “judge not lest you also be judged”....usually being the attack dog opens you up to the devil’s attack in the very same area. Might want to temper that desire to be the first one reporting “another’s sin”.

God is shaking everything that can be shaken, for America is under God’s judgment, and scripture says “judgement begins in the house of the Lord, and if we barely be saved, then what will happen to the others”.

My prayers go out to the Sanford family, as I remember an old saying “never judge another man until you have walked a mile in his shoes”. This does not diminish the great things Gov Sanford did as a fiscal conservative for SC.

The Governor’s confession and desire for forgiveness was sincere, and that’s enough for me. Of course the vultures will be out in full force on both sides.

HYour private reply to me:
“Y’know I have great respect for religious people, but I also know that religion isn’t the answer for everything. Maybe you could see things a little more clearly if you used common sense instead of spouting scripture at every opportunity. Or, to be more plain, get your head out of your ass.”

Thank you for your assessment of my christianity. Religious people bother me as well, however, worse than that is the “holier than thou” people who don’t want anyone to know how they really feel about christians.

You don’t have a point. Life is condemning others, and being the first to pass the gossip around in your sad little world.

Okay—to dispell you’re considerable confusion, I’ll spell it out to you point by point.

1. In my original post, I noted that his behavior was odd and could hurt him. For this, I was scolded by several Freepers for being off base. I did not speculate as to what the problem was.
2. In your particular response, you brushed off my concern and speculated the man was just trying to seek the ‘will of God’. We now know it was anything but.
3. In your follow-up, you quoted Scripture to imply that maybe it was I that had the problem with adultury because I “cast the first stone”. In my opinion, this is where you really went off the deep end.
4. You called me “self righteous”. That was not my intent—I was only pointing out to my detractors that my original hunch was correct. That is a long way from being self-righteous. I never said I was better than anyone else.

Oh—and one last thing: its not “gossip” if the man admitted his own affair. I know its a tough concept to grasp, but I’m sure you can get your mind around it if you try.

My apology for such a late reply, but I got my mother out of hospital on Tues, so I don’t really have time for this, as she is staying here. However your comment cries out for a response so here goes:

When someone does not know the definition of the word “gossip”, then stating I need to get “my mind around it or grasp it” is the “height of ignorance”, as gossip can be fiction or fact..... whether admitted or not.

...here is a dictionary copy of one definition of “gossip”
QUOTE:
gossip
Noun
1. idle talk, usually about other people’s private lives, esp. of a disapproving or malicious nature: office gossip
2. an informal conversation, esp. about other people’s private lives: to have a gossip and a giggle
3. a person who habitually talks about other people, usually maliciously
Verb
to talk idly or maliciously, esp. about other people’s private lives.” unquote

There are other definitions of gossip as well...but I do know how to use the word, and if I had any question about it’s use I would have looked it up.

My scripture quotes really are what “Jesus” thinks of it all, and not a judgment on anyone else...the fact you were offended says volumes. I used the “who is without sin cast the first stone”, to say I was not qualified to judge anyone by the fact I’m human and not perfect.

I’m not “off the deep end” as you claim, in fact, this whole episode proves that my lack of concern over another man’s peronal life is far more balanced, than your need to justify yourself.... and your need to condemn me in the process, because I don’t condemn him as you do. When you don’t know the circustances of a person’s life, then how do you know how you would act in that situation. Everyone has a weak side, and for some it’s sex or lack of it, others drugs, overeating, or a whole list of possibilites. Stress does things to people, and their whole outlook, and the past year has been quite stressful for most Americans, especially conservatives in politics.

Then there is the part you don’t get, that even christians make mistakes, and when they ask forgiveness God gives it. No human being is perfect, even christians...but they are God’s children headed for heaven. Grace is exactly what Sanford will get, because he asked for forgiveness. If Sanford had remained arrogant and unrepentent, then judgment would have been next; and not just a “consequence of it coming out in open”. Christians in sin get dealt with by the Holy Spirit, and if you don’t get that sin out of your life, then everyone ends up knowing about it. Ungodly people don’t belong to God, so they don’t get the same treatment, and aren’t bound by same rules. Grace is “undeserved favor”, it’s when God’s love covers your imperfections.

The unbelievers have chosen their consequence, it’s an eternity without heaven, so what they get here is all the blessings they will have. The devil doesn’t have to tempt or harrass them, because they are already his. The christians, by their very acceptance of Jesus, are a threat to him and must be harmed or at the least embarrassed and neutralized. It’s a spiritual warfare, and sad to say Sanford lost this one battle, but “it isn’t over til it’s over” and hopefully his personal war will be won.

I chose to think the best of Sanford when others questioned it, and take his explanation at face value until I learned otherwise. I don’t condone his actions, nor do I judge them. It doesn’t change the good things he did for SC, and it’s sad he will not be able to advance, however I expect to see a “shaking” of every person who aspires to reach that next level this time around, as I said before.

The Republican Party had better be careful who they choose to represent them in 2012, because if this had happened in the middle of a Presidential race the chance to regain WH would have been lost.
