let’s try something else, and if it fails, try something else again, and again, and again, till we get it right, that everyone is covered, no matter what you call it

but is not Medicare and Medicade already a government run try?

It’s useless to argue with a fool, they’ll drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.

So what? They didn't get it right the first time, or second time, or third time, gotta keep at it to get it right. America is the pioneer in healthcare, and we American citizens deserves the best health care in the world, not some of us, but all of us.

Canada, that system where it is illegal to get services unless and until the government system comes around to giving them to you?

You never lived in Canada did you? The wealthy have no problem getting any level of health care services they want. They could afford to pay on their own in addition to basic government services and get ahead of the line if they so wish, fly to Stanford, CA, or Switzerland, or wherever. They can always get more. But that's not the focus is it? It's the average Joe, including grassroot conservatives, perhaps your not so well to do nephew or whoever, that need comprehensive coverage. Many of our own Americans don't have that (basic medical services), which is a damned shame, being the most advanced medical society in the world.

No, but I’ve lived in England and I have no interest in our dismantling the best health care system in the world—which we have right here. Costs are out of whack because of government intervention, not despite them!

I understand that your ideology includes the transfer of all individual rights to the state (including health care and insurance decisions), but at FR, we believe something different. From our point of view, it is YOU who was sucked in.

Interesting you said that, but facts (as in real facts according to court documents) have you dead wrong. Forget about demonizing others using "moveon.org" type of accusations. Our bankruptcy courts show, in fact, for the past 25 years at least, that the number one reason for individuals declaring bankruptcy is due to medical bills, with or without insurance. Now you could take that to the bank.

Your previous quote of those making $70000 not buying insurance. Well, don't know where you live, but in CA here $70k would buy you an average of about 3 weeks' stay in a hospital. People who are healthy and gamble with those odds are totally stupid.

Greed, and excessive greed for that matter, is no good for anyone, including grassroot conservatives.

It doesn't matter how you cut it, money taken from us in the form of taxes always get shipped around and we don't always get our fair share. But we have to live with it. You don't like it? take a run in 2012 and see if you could do any better. As for the rest grassroot conservatives, we gave up on the GOP in 2008, whether you like it or not. Remember this word, GREED, it will take anyone down.

BTW, I use the word greed, along with "grassroot conservatives" a lot. Funny you seem to ignore the latter, which will determine whether the dumbDems will win again in 2012.

God bless.

When one has money, plenty of it, he has the best healthcare in the world, matters not where he lives. Quite a few foreigners come here and pay cash for medical services they desire. No big deal. But that's not what we are facing is it?

I have plenty enough money to part with, don't have to do anything to care for myself and my family but, what happens when our teaches, butchers, fellow church goes, day care workers, etc, including grassroot conservatives can't get adequate converage? Then we all go down with them. Simple as that. Sleep on it.

From an insider, my cousin, the cardiac surgeon, plainly tells me the reason costs are out of whack is due to GREED. He freely admits it and not ashamed of it, even tho he is a dedicated doc. "may the best man win" is his motto. He is fully aware that many who don't have any, or sufficient health coverage, simply go to the county hospital and die, statistically, that includes many hardworking republicans, who may go bankrupt should they survive the illness itself.

It makes no sense to me to worsen the care for hundreds of millions of Americans and increase the cost for all, because 5% of our population doesn’t have insurance that they should have.

And, of course, the big problem with health care in Canada is for those who can’t afford to fly to the US or elsewhere to get the care that’s not allowed at home. Or, when we ruin our system as well, and they can’t get better care here. Or, when we spoil the incentives for medical innovation and all the world stops getting the medical advances that we have been subsidizing for them.

My friend, that's too simplistic of a view. Not sure where you came up with the 5% number but, I could you that, in the SF area, where a large population is under Kaiser because they are cheaper, are far from adequately insured, while they are alreayd "insured".

Idealistic baby boomers will soon find out, which many of them don't even know, just how far the life-time-cap on their health insurance will get them. It's too easy to burn up a couple of million bucks. After that, you care on your own since no one else will touch you, because you have a pre-existing condition. Nice eh?

BTW, do you know what your life-time-cap is? If not, best find out now.

Yes, they are. I should not have my money stolen from me to subsidize stupidity.

The government ruins everything it touches. Why would you want it to control your health care just so stupid people can feel secure to continue spending $100/mo on cell phones while claiming that they can’t afford health care insurance?

I never said anything about $70000. That was in someone else’s post.

You may have a point.

It does matter how that comes about, for the United States, which has the most practical, valuable resources in the world, not to be able to care for all its citizens, whether it by private or public system, is unacceptable.

Both dumbDems and GOP had their chance at fixing it, so far no luck. They need to keep at it, doesn't matter who is running the show.

That's too general of a brush isn't it? Why do the vice industries don't suffer as much, and some of them are down right profitable still, during this downturn? Maybe people are stupid in general? But why punish ALL who in general do NOT choose to get sick whether they could afford insurance, or adequate insurance at that?

Agreed—though my preference as you might expect for my being on this site is to keep it private and expect most people to pay for it themselves. But the waste and outrageous billing we have now are indeed infuriating!

I hear ya, brother.

But, as you could see in my tag line, I am equally good at cheesing off dumbDems as well as smart republicans when they screw up. I am an equal opportunity cheeser :-D

Really, I am not asking alot, just responsible management of the healthcare system whether it’s private or public, or whatever you call it, so I could get to enjoy seeing my great-grand children not having to slave just to stay alive.

Good talking to you.

When I was a kid, people had priorities that resembled Maslov’s pyramid. You took care of your family’s basic needs first. You bought the luxuries with what was left. If you couldn’t afford insurance (security), you didn’t have a phone or cable TV.

Today, our society treat adults as children and children as adults. The end result is that the kids tell the parents what to buy and and the adults are only too happy to oblige.

So, you end up with families that pay hundreds of dollars each month for phones and satellite TV and restaurant dinners, and then complain that they can’t afford health care.

People should have to invest in their own lives and well-being. They can buy insurance with the money they earn, just as I do.
