“A naked, 200 lb woman charges at the cops, brandishing a knife. What the hell else are they supposed to do?”

take pictures and post them on the internet?

but seriously, the mistake was letting her get the knife.

Using the term “shooting to wound” just indicates that you are an ignorant putz that watches too much tv.

To paraphrase a famous quote, “Never bring a Taser to a knife fight.” The Taser is a single shot device that doesn’t always hit its target and doesn’t always immobilize the target if it does hit. When someone is attacking you with lethal force, you defend yourself with lethal force.

Yep, I agree with that. But, once she had it, they've gotta deal with that particular situation. As a few of the more astute people on this thread pointed out...we weren't there. They could have thought she was headed to the bathroom, or to put some clothes on, or something.

I wouldn't want to deal with a crazy, knife wielding person at a range of 2 to 5 feet. That's inside the average person's reach. Knife fighting range. Likely explains the five shots, as well.

IMHO, the one cop who *didn't* fire because he didn't have a clear view of the situation, is the key. Says to me that this situation went to hell in a hurry, and everyone present was forced to react quickly. *IF* they'd had plenty of time to take an aimed shot to the leg, or use a taser, or throw a net over her, or some of the other more asinine suggestions on this thread...the fourth cop would have been right in the middle of it. But, I wasn't there....

Dude, look at the thread above you-they’re here already.

Don’t bother them with logic or anything else, just let them rant in their own little delusional world of paranoia, Walter Mitty Fantasy and absolute faith that the Jack Boots are ALWAYS wrong.

Maybe that works if it's just a single officer, with just one hand. But, there's multiple officer involved in this incident, and I'm guessing that they all have more than one hand.

Its really kinda sad, we see case after case where the cops are called to help someone and end up shooting them.

IMO its how they are trained.

The Taser is held in the same hand as the firearm. It's the officer's decision which one to use. These three officers made the right decision. The alternative is something like this, or worse (graphic photo).

Actually, the problem is/was caused by the ACLU lawsuits that keep the paranoid and or psychotic schizophrenics living out in the community and free to discontinue their medication instead of in some institution or group home where their safety and the safety of the community can be better maintained.

Then we expect the cops to deal with them in a non-lethal manner when it all goes to sh!t in a second.

That kinda jumped out at me too.

Why didn't they just shoot the knife out of her hand, like in the movies?

I’d agree with that to a point. However the answer isn’t to lock everyone up and shooting someone solely because they are suicidal is not right.
