I recommend you READ some genuine conservatives and get some idea what our tribe is all about.
Try Churchill for one, and Chesterton for another, and a dash of C.S.Lewis. Conservatism is the side that thinks big, not small. This is not “crap”.
Conservatism is not for trivial people.
Then trot back to India with a bucket of soap water and a brush and practice your own brand of it there TROLL Not here, now get lost.
I’m not from India and I’m not getting lost.
I’ve made my bones in the conservative movement, thank you.
I’ve been posting here for years.
As for “Then trot back to India with a bucket of soap water and a brush” - that is the sort of sheer moronic, animal crudity that we should crush here and everywhere else in the conservative movement. There is no excuse for that. It is a dreadful weakness in a man and in a political movement.
Just seems like you belong there and not here is all! The clue was the Sikhs butt kissing and pissing on our own military rules..
“Just seems like you belong there and not here is all! The clue was the Sikhs butt kissing and pissing on our own military rules..”
The fellow asked for an exception. That is fair.
There are more important things at stake here than “pissing on our own military rules”.
You are unhappy about one man. There are a billion others like him (or who identify with him). These people are growing in wealth and power all the time. One trivial issue of military rules compares to the goodwill (and probably an improved likelihood of a military alliance) with a vast and powerful country. Not to mention the cementing of the patriotic feelings and goodwill towards the military on the part of a few million extremely talented and economically powerful Indians in our own country.
How many divisions are all these factors worth ? Are you getting the BIG picture ?
What is the proper judgement of a patriot here ? In what way will the US benefit more ? If you were in charge, and responsible for all our welfare - and as a citizen that is how you MUST think - you must weigh all these factors.
Simple; he gets a haircut and acts like a US soldier end of story.
LOL!!
i say let them wear the beards...the Taliban will really freak out!!!
But if he were permitted to remain a Sikh, if it adds a 5% probability that, the next time we need, say, 20,000 Indian Army troops in Basra (and they would have been very, very useful 2003-2007), would your judgement change ?
How about if the Chinese go nuts and Singapore or Vietnam need a trustworthy garrison ? Or if we need a trustworthy force to occupy the eastern end of the straits of Hormuz ? Or...
What price your rules ?
We do not need help bad enough to dilute military regulations with this nonsense..Grow up and leave dreamland.
No student of history then. There are very few major wars that the US has fought with no allies, and it usually has done so with powerful ones.
And no student of history would dismiss scenario planning either. Events have a habit of turning on a dime. Our military spends an awful lot of effort on exactly this sort of thing - as they have since strategic planning came in in Mahan’s day. All our military leadership has lived on this stuff. I heartily recommend you get some background here, an education is the first step in gaining a sense of perspective.
An Indian alliance is worth a great deal indeed. A bit of courtesy, even some ethnic pandering is well worth the slight cost.

Some people need to learn about following rules.
Special Forces routinely wear beards, when they work with locals who wear beards.

Conservatism implies that one learns from history, physics, mathematics, engineering, and economics, rather than one makes decisions on the world as you wish it were.
Why should soldiers have clean shaven skin? Mustaches are common, there is even a ‘military mustache’ last seen ouside of Hollywood on Governor Dewey. Crusader monk soldiers, the Knights Templar, were required to have beards. The Navy in WWII routinely grew beards, particularly when water was short on long operations.
Special Forces wear beards in Afghanistan. So a Sikh could join Special Forces, but couldn’t be a clerk in a hospital in the US? Odd set of rules there.
I agree. Genuine Conservatism is not for the idiot.
“Genuine Conservatism is not for the idiot”
Precisely ! We cannot claim wisdom and then fail to be wise. Unfortunately our first duty these days seems to be education.
