People in China don't want the Sichuan company to buy it and people in the US don't want Hummer to sell to a Chinese company. So might as well not allow the deal to go through, more people would be happy with that outcome.
Personally, I don't see what the big deal is. Fiat buys Chrysler (an American icon) and no one questions it, either in Italy or the US. The same casual ho hum non-political attitude should prevail with the sale of Hummer.
