Portugese aint Hispanic.
Yes....she acquired diabetes at age 8 according to a news report.....Type 1, or Type 2????
It’ll be a threeway catfight among Hatch, Grassley and Graham to see who gets to a microphone first to lather on the praises.
Whatever Republican sings her praises will be covered favorably by the MSM. It's a perverse incentive our guys are too stupid or too "press hungry" to figure out.
Cardozo is not generally considered to have been Hispanic, rather he was considered Jewish.
I sometimes think I'm the least moderate person on here. Which of the short-list folks would you have preferred? I was just trying to put a realistic prism to it. So; no need to try and insult a good fellow FReeper with the dreaded "moderate" cast... :)
Sotomayor, 54, would be the first Hispanic, and the point is should read Judge is tapped for supreme court.
I don’t think they can block anyone.
I think she is a qualified judge. She’s had over 400 written opinions. I think there’s much to look at but she can’t possibly be as bad as Ginsburg. No way, no how.
Yeah, some leaders of the country they are. I guess they didn't get the memo that leaders take action not direction from the MSM and their RAT betters (betters at least to them).
The U.S. Department of Transportation defines Hispanic to include, “persons of Mexican, Puerto Rican, Cuban, Dominican, Central or South American, or others Spanish or Portuguese culture or origin, regardless of race.”[15] This definition has been adopted by the Small Business Administration as well as many federal, state, and municipal agencies for the purposes of awarding government contracts to minority owned businesses. Still other government agencies adopt definitions that exclude people from Spain. Some others include people from Brazil, but not Spain or Portugal.”
Guess it depends on who you ask. Judge Napolitano on FOX news said he was Hispanic although she would be the first Hispanic female..

While technically his heritage might be considered hispanic, by definition, if you asked if there has been an hispanic on the Sup Ct to date, most informed and intelligent people would say no.
And I suppose the Hon. Judge Andrew Napolitano from Fox news is uninformed and unintelligent?
Might I ask if you are Hispanic or Portugese?
No, Judge Napolitano is TECHNICALLY CORRECT. i am neither Hispanic nor Portugese, but I am a lawyer, and Cardozo is widely accepted as a Jewish jurist, NOT Hispanic. Is Judge Ruth Bader Ginsburg considered a GERMAN judge? no, she’s JEWISH and the fact her ancestors may have come from Germany is not comonly considered when thinking of her. Same with Cardozo.
Guess he’s was from Jewland?
Benjamin Cardozo was a Jewish-American with portuguese jewish ancestry, just as Ruth Bader Ginsberg is Jewish-American with German Jewish ancestry. Honestly, it’s really not that difficult.
I know it’s never easy to argue with a lawyer. (my Dad is one) but, Cardoza is a Spanish surname. (thus Hispanic)
http://www.surnamedb.com/surname.aspx?name=Cardozo
i have said repeatedly that you are TECHNICALLY correct; but that is different than saying he is not COMMONLY THOUGHT OF AS hispanic. Google Cardozo and hispanic and see if you can come up with something that isn’t dated TODAY.
If it’s *technically* correct, what would a jury decide?
After introduction of evidence [dated PRIOR TO May 26, 2009] referring to Ben as Jewish and never mentioning that he is hispanic, they could find that the well known Jewish jurist, Benjamin Cardozo, had hispanic ancestry, much as Ruth Bader Ginsberg has Germanic ancestry. you can discuss this until the cows come home, but until today, BEN CARDOZO was not commonly considered hispanic, by those in the legal field. it appears to mean a great deal to you that he be hispanic.
Ask your dad if he has ever [PRIOR TO TODAY] thought of benjamin cardozo as hispanic.
